Default Something New Music Wise (Help)

Disclaimer: I understand that, literally, the thread below me discusses rock music. However, his topic covers material that I am not all that interested in; if I wanted mainstream crap I'd go there.

As I have drained my current music pool, I am in dire need of new ideas and suggestions. However, having already listened to the radio recently, I am tired of being bombarded with the same song with different lyrics sung by every mainstream band.

I am challenging you, the members of this board, to rack your brains for decent music. Doesn't necessarily have to be underground, but it needs to not be so mainstream as to smack me in the face every time I listen to it.

The following genres are open: Rock (Every kind, I am encompassing everything from Alternative to Black Metal), Hip-Hop (Obviously nothing like Kanye West), Rap (NOT Gangsta rap, please choose something a little bit deeper), and Jazz.

Thanks in advance, I await your replies.

Yeah, the Rx Bandits are a great band. It's a shame they don't have horns anymore.

Calexico is also pretty good if you're into that dusty southwestern folk sound.

    Devotchka is good.

I was really impressed with Hercules & Love Affair, but they're disco and I don't know if you like disco.

Monsters of Folk is an awesome band/album with Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, Jim James and M. Ward. Very cool variety of music from an incredible talented group of artists.

And if you want something completely different, check out Bohren & der Club of Gore. They were this German thrash metal band who decided they wanted to do something different, so they started making something that is best described as "gloom jazz." Their music sounds like really good film noir music, and it's incredibly addictive.

    Post-rock.

    Mogwai
    65daysofstatic
    Explosions In The Sky
    Sigur Ros
    Godspeed! You Black Emperor
    Russian Circles

And some Enter Shikari for good measure, as they're the shit. Listen to the whole thing, don't listen to the first 20secs and think you know what you've got yourself into.

As I said earlier, that's not necessary. Thanks for the list though.

Why not, when the rest of the song sounds pretty much the same throughout?

For Jazz, I really like The Rippingtons for smooth jazz and relaxation. I'm not going to post a lot of videos, if you like it, go search yourself.

    Okay TS
Jazz Fusion with Jonas Hellborg, he literally is one of the best Bassists in the world, this will not bore you.

Grungish - Seattle Rockers Candlebox (if you're tired of listening to Nirvana)

Disarmonia Mundi - If you're fan of Melodeath and good catchy clean choruses

    Evergrey - Progressive Metal

Cynic - Tech Death (with Jazz fusion influence, you'll be suprised)

Black Stone Cherry - Good modern Hard Rock

Adagio - Prog Metal from France

5 Star Grave - Punk and Rock n Roll influenced Melodeath

In terms of my original demands, I am amazed at how well this thread is turning out. I'd like to again thank you ONrpgers for keeping my music stream fresh and dragging me out of the cesspool of mainstream music.

    Check out Dire Straits.

You really need a healthy respect for classic rock to enjoy them.

I just like that culture. Hitchhiking, train hopping, etc. It's more appealing to me than throwing Molotov cocktails at riot police. I don't really have any solid reasons other than that, I just like it. I like all kinds of punk, too, btw. Folk punk and ska are my favorites, though.

    Sorry for the late response.

I can understand that. A "more than music" sort of thing.
