Having played the first two, I'm gonna say that you should probably just run Item World dungeons. Unless there's a storyline map with great exp, I just focused on improving my gear. Once the item dungeons start outleveling you a bunch, you can use them to powerlevel.
Deathblow panels make it like a million times easier, you can bring down people hundreds of times stronger than you.
Reputation: 15Get the item puppy paw stick, equip a character with an item with statisticans / managers, do that characters level up attribute mini-item world esq thing and kill them (IIRC) with the character with the puppy paw stick (kitty paw stick?).
That item has a chance to steal on death (again IIRC) and since the character your leveling will have only one item you have about a 20-30% chance of getting a second one of those with all of the inhabitants of the item.
Leveling goes really quick with a poopload of statisticans.
(ALSO, the leveling area for D3 has monsters weak to fire, get a fire skull [more damage right?] and make sure he gets the max level fire skill before changing him to anything else).
Reputation: 482You really won't get a lot of mana until you level up more. If your main concern is kind of getting through the game to get to the massive damage part then do the following. Otherwise just get through the game with what you got.
Depending on how much mana you need, you get a lot of Mana from repeated runs of 7-3 with a character who has Big Bang or a 3x3 spell (it's easier to get Big Bang though). Btw there is some strange glitch that allows you to gain a massive amount of exp from level 99 enemies and if you pass I think 3 or 4 Stronger enemy bills the mobs at 7-3 will be level 99. If you can get someone strong enough to handle that then you'll be on the way to maxing out your characters.
You can also unlock the House of Ordeals and get to the 4th map. The enemies there are also in a 3x3 pattern and are closer to the Base Panel. Increase the enemy strength with Stronger Enemy bills for more Mana too, (not too mention Exp and Hell). If they get too strong then just use Weaker Enemy bills to bring em back down.
If that's not enough then you can try unlocking the Land of Carnage by defeating pirates and clearing 25 X dimension maps. You can clean X Dimension maps by first getting an item called "Illegal Ticket" that is held by every Pirate Captain. Be wary though as that finding pirates the 1st time around is a pain since their appearance rate is quite low without having members in the PPP club (which you get after defeating your 1st pirate crew and clearing the map.) Then they show up a lot more.
Also, you can get half of the tickets you need from entering a mystery room in the Item World. There's a vendor that sometimes shows up and will sell you a number of the Illegal tickets you need. They cost a bit though which is why you are going to want to have leveled up a bit and earned some Hell at the 7-3 and HoO 4 maps before you run into them.
Enemies in the LoC are stronger, but they give a hell of a lot more exp, mana and Hell. Even the class world gives massive amounts of exp and Hell bonuses for even a level 1 host.
Pirate hunting is a pain in the *** (that's what I'm currently doing for the trophies) since they don't seem to have a set appearance order, just that they will only start appearing at certain floors and only on floors ending with 2-9. They do however always seem to appear on the 1st turn (and sometimes a 2nd crew will appear on the 2nd turn - happened to me while I was hunting the Ghost Pirates for a few hours.)
If you want a certain character to receive the mana but they are too weak to do decent damage (like a cleric) then unlock the True Robber Shop, have them sit next to the person in class who does the kind of damage you need, and while they do all the killing the weak character will get all the Mana.
Pretty much all of the really good ways to gain mana will require you to be a decent level (The Puppy Paw stick included since the only 3 ways to get it are: 1. Steal from a certain group of pirates 2.Steal from the mobs on the map you fight Axel or 3. Do the 10 Gents side quest which you will not be able to do unless you level up a bit anyway) since you'll have to deal with endgame stuff or Pirates in the Item World. But once you get to the LoC you get plenty of Mana, even without Managers. Not that Managers don't help but you get quite a bit at the HoO 4 in the LoC, especially if you have all the enemy bills passed and are killing the LV 9999 mobs.
Some people suggest using Mao as a main to get through all the initial stuff but I used a Boulevard Fighter (tier 6 Fury Fatalist) since they will naturally learn Big Bang and if you reincarnate them and add SPD it will help them deal a good amount of damage and avoid attacks. Using Mao requires more set up since you'll have to have someone with Big Bang anyway, then go into his Class World and learn Big Bang which will cost 10x as much Mana, which will run you 48,000.
The Female counter part to the Boulevard Fighter also leans Big Bang but I dislike her innate Evility since it negates counters, which are a good way of dispatching some enemies, and the Boulevard Fighter gets some skills that significantly increase counter damage.
Sorry for the massive post but if anything is unclear let me know.
