Which is better, LoL (League Of Legends), or HoN (Heroes Of Newerth )? Also, are they both out of beta and free to play?
Edit: Anyone have a beta key I can use? I would really appreciate it!

Reputation: 22Okay thanks. I downloaded, LoL, and it's really fun. If HoN is not better, I really don't feel like downloading it.
Reputation: 17I like HoN graphics engine better but I think I prefer LoL for gameplay and community. HoN a lot of the players are douche bags they go into noob only game and freak out when someone is a noob lol. The Item system sucks in HoN imo thats what keeps screwing me up. btw is HoN going to stay free like LoL where you pay to get all heroes right away and some other special crap?
Both have their pros and cons, try them both to see which one you like better. Both are pretty small downloads so it shouldn't be a problem
@thahn204: HoN will be B2P.
Reputation: 17well if that's the case LoL is better since it's free and will remain free. I highly doubt HoN will have a good population if it continues to head the way its going. You can play dota or LoL and get almost the same exact experience for free. Why are people going to spend 30 bucks on a game that is a clone of dota they even have almost identical heroes with the same skills (devourer and others). It's just stupid imo. The graphics and models are sweet though.
HoN is gonna be b2p, they arnt gonna have item shops cause theres nothing persistent in the game,
LoL on the other hand is gonna make you pay to unlock new heroes...
Reputation: 17I thought LoL was you get all heroes right off the bat if you pay and if you don't you need to unlock them as you go. Or something along them lines.
Reputation: 25the only thing that you have to pay in LoL is skins.
other than that, you can unlock it using ingame points.
on topic:
it's a matter of preference as well as your purpose playing the game.
if you're a casual gamer, definitely stick with LoL.
but if you're looking for that competitive scene and want to be in one, then HoN would be the choice.
not saying that LoL doesn't have a competitive scene, but HoN is definitely built for it more than LoL.
but if you have a weak heart, then don't go anywhere near HoN because the community will just eat you up and spit you out. the game is nowhere near newb friendly. too many elitist.
@thahn204: they're buying the game because it's like dota 2.0.
- up to date graphic ( although to some people it's not exactly better.. some graphics can be a cluster in the game )
- reconnection feature
- anti-leaver feature
- no more peer to peer connection ( on some days it can be better than dota, but in other days it can be worse ). it will depends on how S2 will manage their servers.
- and they have the potential to be great in the competitive scene ( though dota has a great competitive scene, it has one huge disadvantage and that is blizzard can't support dota in any way since it's only a mod )
and you do get all CURRENT heroes if you pay. if they add new heroes, then you need to pay for those heroes or unlock it using ingame points.
now for me.. i'm playing both games right now and enjoying it. but once HoN goes live, i would not buy the game until icefrog unveil his new game. i will see then which one is better.
My opinion is a little biased because I haven't played LoL, but I think HoN is the better game because it is more similar to DoTA. I never gave LoL a chance because there supposedly isn't Creep deny. I feel that ruins a big part of the early game.
Reputation: 25that's because the metagame of HoN/dota is different with LoL.
no creep denying just means that you're more focused on last hitting creeps for gold, harassing your opponents as well as jungling.
at early game, spells use very little mana so you can harass your opponents very often.
very different compared to dota or hon where you can only use your spells 2-3 times ( 2 for most heroes, 3 for int heroes ) before your mana runs out.
and they don't have active items either. no items like guinsoo, mekansm, arcane ring, necromicon, pipe, etc.. plus each creep kill only gives around 18 gold. therefore you don't really have to worry about denying.
jungling is also a very important part of LoL, even more important than in dota or hon because some neutral creeps give heroes some kind of buff
- faster cooldown on spells ( blue buff )
- a slow on your every attack ( red buff )
- pretty big exp and gold reward ( dragons )
you don't really have time to sit on a lane creeping/denying in LoL.
it will take some time for dota/hon players to get used to the idea of no denying. once you've played a decent amount of games, you won't even notice the difference.
i do have a problem with LoL though.
no item carrier. i mean seriously.. wtf were they thinking with this ?? it's a huge pain in the *** not having a carrier.. not too mention that you can't buy anything if you're not in your base.. WTF !?!?!
