    Default General Music Discussion

I'm sure we've all seen the "hey, help me expand my music collection" threads and I just thought it'd be a good idea to make a thread that really just springboards from that into a more general discussion. Feel free to post your bands, as I will, discuss/recommend new bands based on people's interests, and anything else music related! This thread, by no means, is intended to take anything away from all the other genre threads. It's just a place to post your personal taste in music and meet others with similar musical passions.

To start if off im posting some of the bands i like, Just go ahead and post some of the bands you love (if you would like)

If you want more rap, Immortal Technique, and Jedi Mind Tricks, Common and Nas.

I'd name rock, but you have pretty much all I have.

    Oh AC/DC. Queen.

It's an admirable idea, but it always descends into flaming and people who know nothing telling other people that their music is shit.

I honestly like too many to name but my favourite hip hop MC is Vast Aire.

    Fav musician is Prince.

    Band? Can't pick.

Pride: I think you might Hercules & Love Affair. Go look up their song Blind. If you like dance musicians like The Faint, Daft Punk, or MGMT then you might like H&LA.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, what are some genres you guys like? Which bands that have been named (by anyone) do you like, or do you despise haha)

@Xenonight2 - Ive heard of Love Affair, and have heard the song Blind (i believe) its pretty good. But havent heard of H&LA, ill see if their any good.

British Invasion music like the Who, the Yardbirds, the Animals, the Beatles, The Kinks, Donovan, The Rolling Stones, The Small Faces, The Pretty Things, also bands like ELO, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Clash, the Ramones, T. Rex, The Sweet, Boston, The Velvet Underground (And Nico I guess), Cream, The Easybeats, the Temptations, Bon Scott Era AC/DC, Iggy Pop & The Stooges, Them, Moby Grape, The Beach Boys, The Surfaris, The Darkness, Jet, Black Rebels Motocycle Gang, bands like that.
@Civil - It would be easier to read if you arranged them like i did, but i have heard 7 of those bands, and of that like about 4, pretty good list, keep em comming, this is a more rock group of bands, do you have other preferences?

@Wicked315 - Yeah Immortal Technique is good, im gonna update my list as soon as i decide to go ahead and find the rest of my bands, but Immortal Technique is most likely going to be inside of it what type of bands do you like? And what bands? Im more of an... anything thats good type of listener hahaha

I am just not a music person. I feel out of place. These days it is commonplace for someone to come home from work or school and turn on music. That is about the opposite of me. I would rather just have silence. I don't hate music by any means though. I don't rage when somebody turns on the radio. I would just rather have a nice conversation or no noise at all.

My favorite band though is Foo Fighters. Rage Against the Machine is second. Anything else I like is almost always just ONE song from a band. Uncommon Valor from Jedi Mind Tricks. I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas. Let the Drummer Kick by Citizen Cope. I Won't Back Down by Johnny Cash. Set Me Free by Velvet Revolver. You Make Me Smile by Uncle Kracker.

I like silence and music. It's the normal, mundane sounds that I don't like listening to.

Also, my favorite bands right now (they change all the time) are Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Opeth, Against Me!, Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros, and Dropkick Murphys.

So has anybody heard of Sigur Ros? If so what do you like about them, if you havent then i recommend you hear, the song "Vaka" or buy/listen to their album called "()". Vaka is most definitely one of the most magical songs ive ever listened to, now considering the regular "consumption" of music per day, and then multiply that times 365, and then times my age... you have a considerable amount of music heard. Even so, this is pure musical genius, every note seems perfectly placed, and fits stupendously with the piece. The lyrics are for your choosing, they are a language that the band created, (this is a literal language, that has punctuation, definitions, everything) that they kept to themselves so we as the listeners could "create" their own music. Pretty genius if you ask me. Again has anybody heard of them? etc.
