Default Japanese manga BLEACH getting Hollywood adaptation

    http://www.firstshowing.net/2010/03/...he-big-screen/

With a live-action Akira on the studio's future slate, it's no surprise that Heat Vision reports Warner Bros has snagged the rights to another popular manga - Bleach, for a feature length film. Director Peter Segal (Get Smart, Tommy Boy) is negotiating to serve as a producer (apparently he wants to take on more darker, action-fueled material) in a story focusing on a 15-year-old boy who can see ghosts. He meets a female Soul Reaper (who escorts the "souls of the dead"), but a fight with an evil spirit causes the Reaper to transfer her powers to the boy, leaving her stranded in the human world and the boy with her old job as a fighter of evil.

The manga has been published in weekly installments in Japan since 2001 with collected stories spanning 29 volumes in a graphic novel format. The comic has already seen adaptations in the form of a TV series in Japan (the US version airs on Cartoon Network) in addition to feature films and, yes, even a musical, so this is quite the popular manga. Given this is at Warner Brothers, though, great things could come of it in the end.

I be scared that they make some youngster play Ichigo's role (yes yes he's fifteen but in the manga/anime he looks like an adult so meh).

Yah a lot of anime have characters who either look too young or too old for their age.

This is most likely due to the drawing style.

Fail of all the good anime out there they picked the shitty and most overrated. First DBZ and this shit wtf is Hollywood running out of idea or something. I've seen good live actions before prince of tennis (Japanese one) and Cutie Honey series not the movie.

why am I getting a sudden, discomforting premonition of a Hollywood adaptation for Love Hina-transformed into-chick flick??

anyways...considering how badly they botched Dragonball...I wouldn't expect much from Bleach either. Hell, western-games turned into movie adaptations fail miserably....who could expect them to turn a foreign product/franchise into a good, favored movie?

I was going to want them to make a Monster hollywood film but they would probably trash that show.
Also there is too much source material to fit into a movie.

Well I don't really know what to think about this?

I can only be reminded of the disaster that was Dragon ball evolution.

Assuming this is going to be Live action all i can really say at this point is FUUUUUUUUUUU.

The only anime that was good as live action was Death Note.

because it was made by the Japanese themselves. japan actually has tons of movies adapted from manga and anime. if the japanese didn't dare touch the big 3 manga currently, i dont see why the damned hollywood producers should try...

    This doesn't seem good.

After seeing Dragonball Evolution see fail so hard.
It seems like Anime/Manga can't be re-played with the type of hollywood setting.

Well the show doesn't have much depth so it shouldn't be that hard to make a movie about it.

Just slap some random pointless battles together with actors who can portray the characters well enough and then you are done.

thats where i see them failing, bleach fights are pretty large scale and the effect required would be pretty crazy. and the hair, pretty much every live action anime movie i have seen they epic fail on the hair..

Well most anime in that genre have unrealistic expectations of hair.

If Hollywood is making the movie of course it will fail.
When have they ever made a "good" live action anime?

I have to disagree Bleach does have a considerable amount of depth but Like mentioned before the fights are to large scale to be translated into live action

It seems that these kinds of adaptations work better for comic book super heroes because their more within the abilities of CGI.

the fact that its a stand-alone movie shows that the storyline will be changed a bit. i predict that it wont even get up to the saving rukia arc. it will be ichigo killing prolly the grand fisher or something. his getsuga tensho will probably be only used once, to finish the fight. to americans, the idea of a live action actor shouting the name of an attack repeatedly would be silly. or he might jus use it without calling the name.
