People are just bitter toward those who are intellectually smarter, and know it.

You don't have to be a douche to admit that fact, nor does admitting said fact make you a douche.
I worked hard and for a long time to possess the intellect and knowledge that I do have, so I'll be damned if I'm going to dumb it down and not embrace it so someone of lesser mind's feelings are spared.
By the way, saying "lesser mind" is not a diss just because it might hit a nerve. By the very nature of intelligence, some people will be of lesser mind. If George Smoot or Stephen Hawking came in and called one of you a lesser mind, you couldn't argue it.
