However, 2011 is when AMD will be releasing their GPU/CPU fusion chips, based on 32 NM processors, intel will probably be on 28 or lower Fabs.

Shown by nvidia, with the GTX 400 series, we're getting stronger cards, in smaller, single board designs. as stated, by next year we'll be having gpus on much lower fabs aswell, which means cheaper, more power efficient, and run cooler with better overclockablity.

However, since he is a gamer, the only thing he has to worry about replacing every year or so is just his video card. and now that we're in the dx 11 age, the cards themselves will still hold SOME of their value, so he can just sell it and put the money up to the upgrad.e

no investment in computers are bad investments. its just how you handle it.
My God do you people not understand what I was trying to say? Please tell me it's not that you won't see it, but rather you can't... Please tell me you just mis-understood, and you are capable of comprehending what I said in that post...

you said "hes playing games for the wrong reason" I don't see how anyone plays a game for a wrong reason, so there isn't any point.

As for your post, comparing PCS to collectibles is highly irrelevant, due to the fact you will be using your "collectible" causing wear and tear. who buys a PC just to have it collect dust? Pointless, try using a different approach if you wan't people to have a better comprehension than said post.

Also there is nothing in this world that keeps its value as if it were day one of the purchase, so there really isnt any point in your post, other than a possible rant of someone having a better pc than you.

I just quite can't believe you haven't understood what I said, and still believe I was talking about collectables and technology depreciation... This is somewhat worrying.

What does everyone else see when they view my post? The same thing?...

It may not be visually beautiful, but emulators are a great way to test out sometimes..

    PS2 Emulators
Wii Emulator actually looks decent on some games.

Ok then, lets slice it up.

I see a person who possibly cannot afford a high end machine.

From your original post, you said
"Good to know you spent the money on a machine, not for the experiences to be had, but because it's a good machine."
He spent his money on a MACHINE to play games, and to play games, you need a good rig if you want the full enjoyment out of the game. In a sense, its like movies vs p2p mmos. Would you pay 15$ a month to play a game all month, when ever you want, or just to see 1 movie that you can just rent a few months later for about 5$.
    Its all about preferences bro.

Also, you mentioned "for the experiences to be had", isnt that the whole point of buying a videocard? that kinda defeats the purpose of your post, if he didnt care about graphics or eyecandy, he wouldn't have made this thread specifically for high end games.

Except you probably don't know you bought this machine as a collectable, and your collectable will depreciate in value progressively, until it's worth peanuts.
AS I said, no computer is a "collectible" and i question your intelligence for saying this. A collectible is something thats collected and stored, never used, else its value will be decreased, why would someone collect a PC? You can just swap parts and stay on the line, and most upgrades are only needed probably every 2 or 3 years, so yeah there isnt a big line and he would have made his money back in the time hes used his PC.

it will never be worth peanuts, look at the old 7900 series videocards, for what ever reason, people still sell and use these, and they get good fps in games for the most part, theyre happy, even though the card is stupid old and outdated.

Your post is pointless, and it only makes you seem like a hater.

    Well said EIi,

Anways if thats not what you meant, than would you elaborate what your post was suppose to mean, clearly not everyone sees things the same way, so maybe how you saw your post is clearly not how I saw it.

You nearly had it. His enjoyment was coming from what he had purchased, not from what was to be experienced from said purchase; ala, the collectables analogy.

I don't think I can put it any simpler...

This whole purist hardcore gamer "gameplay above all else" is just ridiculous. Video games are named rightly so because they are visual experiences. Games looking better makes them more immersive, look prettier and to do that you need a stronger computer or else you will experience lag wich detracts from the overall experience. Now, the OP just wants to see how far he can push his machine to make the most of it. He just wants to have a really great looking interactive experience. What's wrong with that?

I think not. He obviously bought a good machine to play games at a higher standards of graphics, not to... 'collect'. Either way, his computer will play the same standard of graphics available to be run as the time he had bought it. It's not about value but the power it contains. I really don't know what ridiculous point you're trying to make.
