Default new card, what should i install?

ok, So i just received my new PNY GeForce 240 512mb GDDR5 pci-eXPRESS 2.0 DVI with HDMI and VGA... I want to make sure that it runs at top performance for all my games.

Please if you can, share with me all the additional installations I need. I already know I need to hit the main site and find an updated driver for it. I also need to get direct X 10 now. What else should I look for? any links would be helpful.

    Thank you

The latest nvidia drivers. Nothing more.

The card should be able to handle all games out right now, but it won't run all at max (*looks with a glancing eye at Metro 2033 followed by another look at my gtx285*).

If you have vista/7 you won't need to worry about installing dx10 because those already come with dx11 (Dx11 is backwards compatible with Dx10).
However you need to install dx9 on vista though.

Dx10 isn't on XP, neither is Dx11 and neither will they ever be, so you only got a performance boost and no 'real' graphical boost.

I should update this but all my effort went into writing this lousy excuse.

windows XP unfortunately, actually I have been reading that direct X 10 will eventually be compatible with XP.

I have a 250gb hard drive, 3g of ram. my comp is a dual core. Its a little on the older side, but its a XPS 400, I am unsure what the motherboard was that came with it but it allowed for a bunch of updates.

The graphics card we purchased was one of the top ones we could get to work with the power supply. hmmm is there any other information you would need?

I currently use a good gaming defragger and game boost and a good cleaning system on my comp to help it run smoothly. Just looking for anything else that will help me boost performance.

Mind giving us a link to the source?

Dx10 won't be coming out for XP afaik, not officialy at least and the current Dx10-for-XP projects all failed pretty well.

Dx10 is coded quite a bit different than Dx9 making it unable to be backwards compatible. One of the reasons you needed to install Dx9 on Vista in order to play Dx9.
