Rather, in HoN, if you don't call, most likely someone else will be punished for your mistake, if they aren't at a high enough level. This then sets THEM back, and boosts the other team.
See where it gets messy? If you screw up, your team suffers for it. Thats the basis of HoN. Thats where people get pissed off at. And it's what i like to call the "buffer" that keeps idiots from playing this game. (Seeing as they screw up, get raged at every game, proceed to say HON SUCKS then quit, instead of actually browsing the forums where there is a PLETHORA of help for newbies, that include the very BASICS of the game.)
People play LoL because its a solo game. They prefer it because it's a solo game. Its casual, pick up friendly, and not exactly difficult to learn.
People play HoN because its team oriented. Its intense, micro intensive, with a steep learning curve, and competitive.
two COMPLETELY different games. Seeing as one was made by pendragon and the other one follows icefrog, i can see why pendragon would branch off into a completely DIFFERENT STYLE of game. Rather than creating competition for HoN, he set up a new category of game, which is the 'casual styled' LoL.
I say it's not competitive because people don't rage. People are silent. Any kind of competitive game is based around defeating your opponents. Obviously, when you screw up and your team loses because of you, there are going to be hurt feelings, especially on the internet where your free to say whatever you like.
The feeling of competitiveness comes from a sense of achievement after you defeated your opponent. You out micro'd them, out strategized them as a team, outplayed them. Unfortunately for HoN which is a completely team oriented game (To the point where lanes matter SO much), the competition is so great (HAY PSR, kdr), that when you lose, its impossible to not rage at someone. If you lose, because it's a good game, then people don't rage as much. If you lose because you have that one IDIOT on your team who doesn't read forums and jumps into a team oriented game without even knowing its a team oriented game and does his own thing, then you have EVERY right to rage at him.
See what i'm getting at? From what i read in this topic, LoL is a game where solo players don't really get punished.
I don't even know where you got the competitive =/= dbag thing. Or the not competitive thing. Not once did i say it wasn't competitive. It can be, but due to the nature of the game, it doesn't have as fierce competition as HoN does.
So, pretty much, very competitive people who love hard fought games based upon an in game 'skillset' (not talking about hero skills, but micro, juking ability, timing, positioning, map awareness, map control, creep stacking, creep pulling, kongor timings, timed pushes, different hero strats and counters, lineups, etc. etc. etc etc. etc.) will love HoN.
From what i read, the casual gamer, one who loves the concept of clicking a hero around and using a few skills (not sure how many, but i believe its 3 base with a few more specialized?) with different specialized heroes that each have their own 'special' hijink, not much hardcore micro, but still incredibly fun to play (Enjoy the satisfaction of completely destroying a game.. ha!), will love LoL.
and THATS why this topic will always be pondered upon, because people don't realize any of the things i talked about. Seeing as i played 'competitive' dota for a while, and attempted to play competitive hon, and eventually quit the game all together, i know exactly what i'm talking about.
