    Default Darkfall Free 14-day Trial

apparently you don't need a credit card or paypal or anything

"We’ve also placed a per country quota on Asian accounts as these are the European and North American servers and the players from these regions should have priority. The free trial offer is limited to one trial per computer. "

    What is Darkfall like?

this is a quote from the mmorpg.com forum... I've never played darkfall but I think this is probably a good, brief description of what to expect for anyone new to the game.

"Problem is that the modern wave of "mmo" players who do nothing but quest and grind for gear endlessly simply can't imagine having their asses handed to them, and their gear looted.

They also can't stand the thought of not being treated like the "Special chosen one, savior of the universe" by a game.

The ironic thing is that these are exactly the people who would have the most to gain from learning Darkfall's lessons...IE: don't get attatched to your gear. Don't cry when you die. Take it all in stride and have a good time. There's no sense getting pissed because your pixels were lost....or because you got killed in a PVP game.

Darkfall sets you free, in a way, from the mentality fostered by other mmos these days. It takes some time to learn the lessons, but when you then play other games, you're not nearly as frustrated or gear-obsessed as you once were. You realise that having FUN is the most important part of the game, after all." ~ Wharg0ul

Looks like a fun game to me! When I have more free time I'd like to try it out.

Dont expect the game to be a cake walk. Best tip i can give you are, Look for a ACTIVE clan. (with a city, and SOME type of resource nodes) After that get pickaxes, wood axes, and fishing poles. Horde your ****ing resources, As the gathering skills that use those tool are the ones that greatly increase your stats. Afk swimming helps a lot too.

Joining a clan early has its pluses and negatives, The bonus of having resources easily farmed inside the clan walls or near them. And having constant help, and protection. The negative is, usually you have to spend ALL day traveling to get to the city and then bind there from the noob town, and dying on the way there sets you all the way back to the noob town. Also there are typically only stronger mobs that will eat you up if they hit you near the player made cities. but once you get comfortable with your stats, The easiest skills to gain at first are magic, and archery the two ranged skills. Since essentially you will be kiting and leashing the mobs so you dont get hit.

a bit of wall of text, but those are some helpful tips to help you enjoy the game a bit more. It has changed a lot since i played but i was one of the top players in a well known clan.

They might actually get some new players out of this; their last trial wasn't even free people had to pay a dollar just to TRY the game and I guarantee 90% of them wish they could of gotten their dollar back because this game is not for everyone.

Don't listen to the instructions when they tell you the d/l form their server is very slow. If anything the torrent was going like 10kbs down and 50kbs up for me, and the patcher was like anywhere from 500kbs to 1.7mbps xD

Thanks for the info though.. it's something to consider.

I wonder, might one still be able to have fun pvp'ing other new people?
New people don't go through a bunch of really tough monsters and unknown territory to reach enemy lands in order to pvp against other possibly-new people and get gang *****...it's totally unrealistic and never happens. The only pvp you get in newbie areas is from 4+month old players who want to get their alignment back up. And if your thinking about "dueling" one of your own race alliance, you gotta be really far out so that tower's can't hit you, and whoever win's the fight has their alignment knocked down by 5 I believe, forget the exact numbers...but once you get knocked down by 10 you can't enter your own race alliance cities anymore.

And yes while it, in a way, could make sense that someone who has played 8 months is that much better than someone who has played 4 months, for PvP it's the worst system imagine-able because it encourages grind well over skill.

An 8 month old player can 5~7 hit-kill a 2 month old player, while it takes them around 40 or 50 hits to kill the 8 month old player...not exaggerating at all.

@ Davardo : Don't roll alfar then, alfar has the worst community out of any of the race alliance's. Human/mirdain/dwarf seems to be the nice-est out of them all that I've experienced.

Well, I tried the game, I like the blood, and the fact that NPC animals run away, and NPC monsters attack you. Ultimately, however, it's just not my type of game.
