Read about there pricing module.
Basically what you get is a Demo to play for free, everything else you gonna have to pay for.
Reputation: 366The game is still p2p. It is just a sign up for beta which will be only in fall. So too early to get hyped.
VIP? Pay for expansions?
I bet the free-playing players limitations will be ridiculous.
Reputation: 366Wow. By reading all the info there now it seems I would rather take Rohan over this game than. Should've stayed p2p. F2P will destroy the game.
Going F2P is another way of saying we are loosing money, we need to open silly cash shop and try scam more money from everybody.

Reputation: 22Honestly this might not be a bad move if it's done right. DDO is fairly successful - moreso than before i'd say - after switching to pretty much the same business model. DDO did a good job in hooking in some players and making them spend money on contents. I don't play LOTRO so I can't judge how restricted/good the future subsription tiers are...
If you look at the amount of money some people pour into "F2P" MMORPGS - this is definitely not a "wrong" move to make for Turbine.
Reputation: 15Man, this is going to be great. I payed 9.99 during a Woot! special for the game and the 2 expansions.
Which I will have access to, even if I'm not a VIP player. So I'll get to play everything for only 10 bucks while everyone else is paying 10 bucks per area (I know this isn't the exact price, just trying to make my point). Will have to dump some money to boost my gold cap, if I don't just get the points in game.
Smartest move I've made in a while, and I didn't even know it at the time.
GET HYPE.
I generally don't like f2p conversions because f2p is actually more expensive in the long run than a sub. LotRO is known for its PvE end game raiding so if you were into the raid scene under p2p your costs are going to UP in f2p because you are going need the cash shop to remain viable in addition to maintaining your VIP access.
That's a good point about the mounts. If I can't purchase a horse on the f2p model then I'm not going to play, even though I already love the game.
Also, what I said about Quests in Lone Lands(lvl 20-25 content) and onward is only partially true. You can do any quests for free except for the ones that are "peripheral to the main storyline".
here's my source: MMORPG interview with Kate Paiz on F2P changes
Reputation: 15Monster play is super fun! But either way its a long way to get there. Level 50+ subscription. Probally not alot of the F2P people will even think about it. But it is... pretty decent at times. I remember a few times we had at least 150 freeps vs the same #ish of creeps. Insane lag if you dont drop to lowest settings =) For me at least.
Good fun though.
Still trying to make video's from *not youtube* embed, no luck.
I think you guys did read everything about it being f2p. Go to the page http://www.lotro.com/betasignup/vipchart.html
it will tell you everything what u get as a free player. If you ask me, you can totally play this full game being free. The only thing thats not allowed is monster play which is the PvP in the game. But if you ask me (i havent played the game yet, but the PvP wasnt even in the game when it first came out. They made that after it was release. This game prolly is the best when doing PvE!Plus Im someone who LOVES to craft in well made games, and this is one of them
Also there is player housing!) Which Im sure a lot of yous can live without also you decide to get the VIP package. Im deff gonna start playing this game because its F2P. This is the closest you people will get thats actually worth it to play while its free and the closest to WoW being free. But WOW this really blows my mind away. Lord of the Rings Online is a PRETTY DAMN GOOD GAME. They deff just bought me by doing this.
The only thing which sounds cheap is how PvP isnt included in the FREE section. I wish you were able to like buy them points for time... so like buy 200 points and pay for like 3hours? I dont know how much points cost, but you get the idea.
This is truely pretty amazing, just shows that MMOs in NA are getting closer and closer to being free. IM PUMPED.
