    Enough said.
    no, just no!

everytime someone says something you find "insulting" or "ignorant", you do this: turn it into one hell of a debate just so you are right.

there are enough topics to back my statement, and i am even expecting that this will end in a debate, so i say you this ahead, i have no intention of debating this with you, because all you do is spit out walls of text.

this is how i think about it, and i do believe i am not the only one who thinks about it this way.

so please, try to stop turning almost everything in a debate, i can believe you do not agree with most people, but going around calling people ignorant because they have a different view on the subject then you is not a good example, especially for a mod.

    Default New Mortal Kombat Game

That live-action Mortal Kombat trailer recently released on YouTube maybe didn't have anything to do with a new Mortal Kombat game, but it makes little difference as Warner Bros. today has coincidentally announced a new Mortal Kombat game anyway. Evidently dubbed simply "Mortal Kombat," the new game is being developed by a new team for release in 2011.
The new team, called NetherRealm Studios, is being guided by original Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon. This new Mortal Kombat promises a "reinvention of its classic 2D fighting mechanic" along with a "new graphics engine." It's a little unclear from the wording, but it sounds like it'll go the Street Fighter 4 route, with 3D visuals but strictly 2D gameplay.
This new entry will also add tag-team modes in addition to standard one-on-one bouts, including a "co-op arcade mode" that has two players teaming up to take on other teams online. Warner Bros. also promises the "deepest story mode of any fighting game" with a return of "iconic warriors" from past Mortal Kombat games, but no specific characters are mentioned. And of course, there will also be a return of Fatalities.

I don't know, I liked the 3D and 2D Mortal Kombat, Deadly Alliance being my favorite. But...it just seems like...eh. Now everybody will call Mortal Kombat a Street Fighter clone.

This is entirely inaccurate. Hanzo Hasashi was a member of the Shirai, he was sent by Quan Chi to acquire an artifact. He offered to wipe out the opposing clan in return, the Lin Kuei; Sub-Zero's clan.

He struck the same deal with Sub-Zero. Zero killed him, the Shirai got wiped out.

Scorpion was born and he killed Sub-Zero. Sub-Zero then became Noob Saibot and the other Sub-Zero, the first one's brother, became the new one.

    It's called research, quite delicious.
Supposedly this trailer was made just to get publicity or something and has
nothing to do with the actual plot of the movie they will make. My cousins a huge MK nerd, I don't really remember exactly what he said so that could be wrong but I'll ask him again, cause I remember he was pissed off about it not following MK at all.

If this is getting a console wide release, I hope they do it right. SF4 was damn hard to control using the standard 360 controller.

This didn't need to be a separate thread. Don't do this kind of thing.

    Merging.

Anyway, Ed Boon has said he's making it really, really violent. He said he's concerned at what the censors will want cut out.

They are using the characters to create a different type of movie based off of the original game. Just because their is now outworld doesn't mean its mortal kombat, but to fanboys that's what it means.

But I guess to each their own. I was pissed when Doom didnt have demons from hell, but they really butchered that adaption (and there wasnt really a lot to butcher so that says a lot). Personally there are some things I don't mind. If there is no outworld I can handle that. If they want to modernize Mortal Kombat and make it more down to earth... fine. It all just depends on if its a good movie or not. I never compare the game to the movie, but how the movie stands on its own. If you are going to argue about Game vs Movie than I consider that pandering.

And Doom sucked regardless of whether it followed the game or not.

It's not a matter of fanboyism.

Mortal Kombat is the tournament held between warriors of Earth and Outworld, for a reason. That reason being Shang Tsung's/Shao Kahn's attempted take over of Earth. The reason for the first movie was that it was the 10th tournament and Outworld had won nine of the 10 needed.

I just can't see how this would be an adaptation of the game enough to be Mortal Kombat and not have Outworld in it.

I don't really think anyone needs to justify making "new versions" or "changed versions" of old concepts.

I loved the original Mortal Combat game as a child, but I still think the rest of them are crap, regardless of whether or not they are a continuation of said game.
Similarly, I don't exclude the possibility that I might like this movie even if it twists 90% of the source material. That has no bearing on the actual quality of the product by itself.

Like Watchmen. "Don't judge so close to the comic.", why? You've called it Watchmen.
I get your point, but ironically, I think that if the creator of a certain concept decided to "re-invent" one of his or her older concepts, a lot of people would be just fine with it.
You'd hear fans going "Ah, that's a breath of fresh air" etc.

When a third-party does it(especially in movie format), it's automatically dismissed, and people start shouting about "loss of artistic integrity", "sell out", and how the material has been "dumbed down".
To me, it seems people are to obsessed with what they want, while forgetting that it's the people who make this stuff who get to choose how it all goes in the end.

Fans don't "deserve" to be catered to any more than anyone else. It's the creators who deem who they want to target and what sort of material they want to make. If people don't like it, they can just ignore it.

Which is why things should be judged on their own merits. Comparison is of course inevitable, but that's because that which came before sets the standard for that which comes after. If a movie is bad in any way, it's because it's bad compared to the standards we've set with other movies, not because it doesn't 90-100% resemble some individuals idea of what the movie should have been like.

I'd have more understanding for such an argument if the creators said "We're trying to stick as close to the original source as possible" and then failing horribly at it, since then they would objectively be failing at something.
