canada has many, many area codes.

ie. (416)123-1234 might be a Toronto number

but if you go just a little ways into the outlying Peel region, the number would likely look like

(905)123-1234

and that's just in the Greater Toronto Area. Canada is pretty huge, dude.

oh and of course some people have non-standard area codes, depending on how their phone service works.
