    Default Oister - quitting drinking.

So, this is a little experiment for me (as well as some other things, but I'll keep those a secret for now).

I drink regularly...prolly once a week or more. After the past few hangover days, I've decided to not drink anymore for a while. Just as an experiment, to see if my overall health improves from stopping binge drinking.

I don't feel that I have a problem or anything like that just quitting drinking in favor of my other alternative >_< And I don't mean that I'm just going to smoke every day. I mean that on the days I would be drinking, I'll just take the alternative instead.

Anyway, I post this wondering if anyone else has similar experience? I know I'm a bit ahead of most of you in the age curve...I've been drinking regularly for about 2 years now. I'm looking to the older guys who are past the thrill of 21 to chime in here and let me know your experiences :]

My dad used to be a drunky lived with his parents(until a year and a half ago) and got a dui almost everytime he went out.
he started only drink 7 beers max a week(once a week) he bought a house with his girl and making shizloads of money as an electrician.
    tl;dr
    drinking less=profit

It depends on what kind of person you are and how your body works.

I used to drink and smoke a bit but I quit a many years back.

For some reason I never had any bad withdrawals.
Some people do and some people don't.

I had worse withdrawals from trying to stop using energy drinks.......never quit immediately.

So maybe you could try weening off of alcohol slowly by cutting the amount you use.

I did have a few urges when I first tried stopping but if I distracted myself with work or some hobby I usually forgot until it was the end of the day and I was too tired to care.

Well, I'm not even legal yet. I can't even drink in (most) bars...

However, I feel I've seen everything that alcohol has to offer. I'm really sick of waking up feeling like I'm going to die. I see what it does to my friends...I see what it does to me. It really makes me into a jackass - just like in Pinocchio haha.

Like I just told my mom...I can drink all night and want to die for 24 hours afterward. Or, I can smoke all night and wake up feeling a tiny bit fuzzy.

I remember back when I didn't drink, and I would smoke...I always had a better time than I did drinking. I like how it lifts you up, but still leaves you with a clear head.

@Irony - no...I really never feel an urge to drink. Just hanging out at parties, people'll say "yo come get one of these beers!"...you know. I'm just gonna stick to the sticky I guess.

I wish Rude Boy was around right now. I wanna chat with him on MSN about this, because, if I recall correctly, he just made a similar decision.

You basically need to kill one habit by exchanging it with another.

Or at least that is how I do it.

You most likely won't feel very much side effects since that amount of drinking was not a daily event. Those who have a very heavy alcohol addiction can suffer severe withdrawal that includes seizures, heart attack and sometimes death, but to reach that level most of those have been drinking heavily on a daily basis for 10+ years.

I drink all the time and hangovers are just a sign that last night was a motherfuckin' party. Hell yeah.

Yeah. I figured it wouldn't hurt me too much.

Actually, I think I'm going to brew up some mead. It takes 6 months to properly age (or more), so at the end of the 6 months I'll have something to sip on. I guess I'll make that my goal!

I'm going to try and not get "drunk" anymore, I guess should be the goal.

giving up drinking is giving up the whole social aspect of drinking.

only do it, if your prepared to make the leap. the alternative culture is a lot different.

i've never really been a drinker, i'll have a shot on the odd occassion, but for the most part it never get's past that. As irony said, gotta swap the drinking with something else. i see you have that covered however.

Drank once a week or so like you said, never really got much of a hangover though. (except one time at a friend's 21st b-day party, the morning after was the worst morning I've ever had... ugh.) Only the age of 20 myself, and I've even cut back more on drinking, once a month maybe, or when I catch up with a friend I haven't seen in a while.

Best of luck to your brewing.

I just feel like since I started earlier than most...the thrill is all gone for me. Its not new...its just old, and not so fun, and isn't worth the sickness the next day.

Iono. Guess I should try to locate some new friends my age that don't drink regularly. Good luck to me haha. Not that I can't keep the old friends as well, but when every Saturday night involves going out and getting drunk, its kinda difficult to schedule anything.

Ah well. I've heard it gets boring for most people when they're 22. Thats only a few more years wait.
That's the thing, I've never cared about looking out of place, especially among those who need a drug to have a good time (Nothing against drug use, obviously). I would want that, is anything.

day and drink beer. Yeah it's bad on the liver but why not before I can't do that again unless I wanted to be a loser at some time in my life.
Continue that way and then you will get Cirhossis of the liver and die by 50

I really hope you're joking, but I know you're not.
