Default Planning on Building a PC

If my brother could convince my parents to get me a new PC which i will build, with the help of friends then, well i will be building a PC

so anyway,my budget would be around 1k US but i wont be buying it in the US,that doesnt matter anyway

my goal is to be able to run the latest games and the game within 2 years on at least medium-high without any major upgrades in between these two years

    Thanks

An AMD quad or hexa core ( you can go intel but their a little more expensive, up to u)
    A GTX 460 or a 5830
    4 GBs of DDR3
A motherboard with two pci - express slots for future crossfire/sli'ing compatible with your processor of choice of course.
A 600+ Watt PSU ( again for future xfire/sli'ing ) with the recommended amps on the 12v rail for your graphics card.

You can re-use your computer case but if your budget allows go for an Antec 300.

I cant tell you every exact part because that takes up too much time.

Link me a dualcore gaming build that can run metro 2033 on high.
    Oh wait, you can't.

While quadcores don't use all 4 cores doesn't mean only 1/2 cores will be used in total.
If I'm not mistaken Windows shifts stuff to the other less loaded cores thus giving you more power for your cores.

I should update this but all my effort went into writing this lousy excuse.

Uhhh...Sorta, most modern games(late 2008-now) has some form of multicore usage. Which means all cores will be used, but some games don't have the right coding to utilize the 3rd and 4th core to the fullest. But the extra cores will give you a boost regardless of the optimization.

I can play Metro 2033 at directx 10 very high settings just fine with my dual core.

    I used;

    AMD Athlon X2 5200+ 2.7 ghz
    8800GT OC
    2 gigs of DDR2 800mhz RAM

It was sort of a discouraging statement rather than a fact.

You're going to shoot yourself in the foot a few times if you want a new gaming PC and buy a dualcore instead of a quadcore just because games aren't optimized for quadcores yet.
(and I wrote this after a sleepless night, so I cba to think of a game that doesn't run well on a dual)

Yah I understand what you are saying just wanted to go over that point.

I built my PC around 3 years ago so that is why I went for dual core back then.

But if I were to build another right now I would go for a quad core.

For Intel's case, well, their pricing is jacked up to be honest. They sell a dual core that cost more than a quad. So it's hard to say.
    Thanks

well my bro is coming home in like 2 hours, then we will go see his friends and figure it out
    they both built PCs before
