Reputation: 49there are a couple P2P games with cash shop around, and their cash shop has always been cosmetic. 100% sure this will be like that, plus probably server transfers, character renames, character's gender change....
cash shops like that are perfectly fine imo...not required at all to play the game on equal foot with the rest, but for some people stuff like that is worth some extra bucks...
We must go forward, not backward. Upward, not forward. And always twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom!

- Warhammer 40K: Eternal Crusade
Nono, like shirts, hats, cosmetic stuff
People like those, people like to be unique, they would buy it.
Ye ye, it wont unbalance, you can play it normally without spending 1 dime at cash shop, but as I said, some people love being unique and they will spend money on it, thats profit for the company.
Thats a cool model. It works for F2P why wouldn't it work for P2P

Even though Tera has been getting a surprisingly good amount of attention from the major game magazines/websites, the truth is that it will likely at least start off as a 'sleeper hit' at best. Its main issue is it is an Asian-looking standalone game from an unknown publisher and developer in a sea swarming with games in the more popular medieval/sci-fi settings which tie into popular established franchises and made/hosted by well-known companies. Basically, even if Tera is the 'best game ever' the average person is still far more likely to try out a Star Wars mmorpg made by Bioware because both are well-established, 'safe' names.
Thus, a cash shop is likely the best way to help ensure that Tera doesn't instantly flop the moment it comes out; p2p games tend to be expensive to run and since it will likely begin with a relatively small community, it will need the extra money that the CS rakes in. Of course, if all goes well and word starts spreading that its a good game the CS won't necessarily be needed, but the initial launch is often what makes or breaks a p2p mmorpg.
Of course, there is always the slim chance that they'll decide to put horribly game-breaking or otherwise just plain unbalanced items into the cash shop. However, if they are stupid enough to do that in an already p2p game, I doubt an unbalanced CS will be their biggest issue in the first place.

Reputation: 41thought that this will happen. Terra isnt that epic game like many of you think. Really..you will be disapointed if you hype this game too much. Combat is fun yeah but in the end its another fantasy mmorpg with some new features..
