Default Virtual Reality Gaming: Good or Bad?

((I am aware that some have posted topics like this in the past. But hey, Why not bring somthing back. I like the topic TBH))

I have noticed that various company's working with the military have began to scrape the surface in training there soilders by the use of virtual reality "Games" or "Training Practices" and some gaming company's may take advantage of this new exercise. We have already seen in the media examples of this, like in the popular anime .Hack and the manga 1/2 prince. These two examples bring up a few questions.

If we dig into VR gaming, Could we possibly get our reality and fantasy world confused? Could our mind become so absorbed in our game that we break the line between dream and reality?

Or could VR gaming simply be harmless in the future? Just a nice little addition to our every day life's that won't effect us any differently then normal gaming.

This is the post i would like to discuss this in. What do you guys think about VR gaming in the future?

If it's anything like "The Lawnmower Man," then God help us all.

I was thinking about this yesterday. If VR ever becomes so real you can't tell the difference (like the matrix for example) you could become incredibly attatched to that world.

Have you ever had a dream where you're really happy, maybe you have a hot girlfriend or you're a millionare, then when you wake up and you feel abit dissapointed and sad when you realise it wasn't real? I guess it would go the same way for Virtual Reality. You could end up becoming attached to characters in a game for example. I mean come on, it's already easy enough to get attached to characters in movies/games as it is and feel abit sad when they die, imagine if it was Virtual Reality. You could probably fall in love with a character and end up becoming deeply depressed if something happened to them.

Still, I'm really exicited to see the advancements. I think VR is something we could see in our lifetime.

I prefer a controller or a mouse and keyboard in my hand, thanks.

VR goggles and all that sound prohibitively expensive.

Wut? By the time it's commonplace, I can't imagine it being very expensive.

VR is going to be like having a computer in the 1940's.

Im just really afraid of the psycological effects here. Even here in the real world when doctors tryed to influnce people while they were asleep, Some of the people they tryed to experiment with started losing the line between dream and reality. Thats what im worried about mostly.

There is a way to Virtual Reality Gaming and its affordable to everyone. Also, it cost nothing at all! The term is Lucid Dreaming.

Yeah I'm hella jealous of those people, with practice or without. I'm simply not motivated enough to keep a dream journal or do all the awakening techniques that they do. www.dreamviews.com is a great site to learn more about lucid dreaming. That is, if you're motivated to actually do those technique.
