Reputation: 60ATITD is the #1 crafting/gathering game out there, it's p2p though but the entire game focuses on it,
Darkfall and Mortal have a lot of crafting too.
And Goonzu is based on crafting, which is a F2p game.

I should update this but all my effort went into writing this lousy excuse.
Reputation: 106I always was fond of Final Fantasy XI's crafting system. There are quite a few different crafting professions to specialize in and each is very rewarding. Not to mention the system is fairly deep with things like the day of the week (in-game) influencing success rates. On the other hand, the 'gathering' side of it could decidedly be better since you need to constantly spend money buying breakable gathering tools (pickaxes for mines for example) and many materials require farming them off of mobs (not to mention you need to spend a ton of money before you start turning anything resembling a profit).
However, I would have to agree that Wurm probably has the best crafting system in terms of detail. You have to build pretty much everything from the ground up (ex: cut a tree to get wood, cut the wood with a specific item to make it into a certain type of material, combine that with a bunch of other stuff and you may eventually make 1 wheel...the item you cut the wood with was probably also made via crafting). It's rather complicated and very time-consuming, but definitely fun if you like crafting.
If you are looking for a 100% f2p game with a good crating system though (Wurm you need to pay for to advance after a certain point), I would have to say Mabinogi. It's not exactly the most fun or detailed crafting system out there, but it's still better than the ones in any other f2p game that I can think of. Plus, some of the crafts, such as cooking, have a bit of a minigame to them that determines the quality of the item you make.

Vindictus
Dofus
Atlantica
Runes of Magic
Wurm
SUN (I could mistakes on this one, since I forgot how it worked)
All the ones I know of. Please note, currently, the ONLY one I'm sure of is Vindictus (almost all of the gear in the game has to be crafted by collecting the items from the monsters).
