That's what I don't get.
Underage alcohol consumption laws are meant to protect the population from themselves. Consuming alcohol before your liver is fully developed has a higher potential to cause bodily harm. The human liver is fully developed by the age of 18. I live in Canada, I can drink legally at the age of 18. When I cross the boarder to America my liver somehow becomes underdeveloped and I'm suddenly unfit to consume alcohol until 21.
I could get charged with being under the influence of alcohol underaged, but I'm physically developed enough to handle it. There is no real way to judge if someone is mentally capible of handling alcohol so whether or not someone is mentally fit to be consuming alcohol shouldn't be a factor in the legal drinking age.
I was watching some shtty campusPD show on G4, and after people get charged drinking underaged they get expelled from university, even if they're 20.
