GameAmp: 2006 E3 Full MMO Reviews

F2P, no words on shops, but expansions will cost. An interesting twist to their madness.

Also Exsteel will be F2P as well.

    LOL, this is interesting.

They are using a "Pawn Shop" type vendors.

Any items sold to a vendor can be purchased by another player.

Acclaim is no longer considered a big gaming company. Besides, they all still look like cookie cutter korean MMO.

I think the "pawn Shop" Vendors is a good idea.

What do you normally do with a nice enchanted item after you find something better? You either sell it or save it for next char.

If you sell it, someone else will come to find it and use it. I have seen only one other game use "Pawn Shop" vendors, and thats DDO.

Yup, but there will be add-ons to the Core game too, just not extra fillers like a huge extensive map or more end-game material.

Maybe some extra dungeons or gear, nothing major.

I personally like the idea. Its like a free trial but you get to keep the full version. Get ehm addicted and want more. Smart marketing strat. Sounds very familiar.

NC soft has failed titles? I know Auto-Assault had to cut down to one server but thats really it. What titles failed? I know its not Guild Wars or Lineage 2.

B2P = You would need to purchase the client and the online time is free.

F2P = You download the client for free, and online time is free. Normally you would have a cash shop to take care of overheads and make profits.

    Guild Wars was strictly B2P.

NC Soft announced they were going to release a F2P game at the beginning of the year. Dungeon Runners is it. The client will be free to DL and its expansions will cost.

From the looks of it, there will be no cash shops/item malls within the game. Their profits will come from the selling of the expansions.

This title along with Exsteel will be F2P. I personally think this is a smart marketing strategy. Give them a F2P with graphics that can compete with certain P2P games and the customer support of one too. This should draw in huge quantity of players and then get them wanting more. This is where they make the profits.

Pricing can vary depending on the population of the community Vs. the cost of the expansions development. Meaning the more the players, cheaper it may be to purchase the game.

I would assume they have or are in the process of deveolping a few expansion and will be releasing them 3-4 months after the release date of Dungeon Runners. If they can produce 2-3 well thought out expansions. I can see this being the new way to selling an MMO to the customers.

LOL, I know, I asked the same question. Got no response. Just attempting to stirr up bad PR for the company.

I also agree that any F2P from a well known gaming company is much better than any F2P from these cookie cutter companies.

If SOE or Blizzard did the same thing, they would destroy the Cookie Cutter Companies easily.

Well SOE does have plans to develop a type of f2p mmo, in which you pay real money for certain items. As long as it's not like entropia, that seems interesting. I think that as time goes by, we'll start seeing more western companies adapting the cash shop methods that korean games use. 2Moons is also another one which will be f2p. I personally would love to see the day when a well known company begins to adapt this system. Just imagine a game with a graphics engine like EQ2's that's f2p.

I dont agree to the F2P cash shop system. Its very unbalanced way to make a profit. Now if they did F2P like how NC Soft is doing it, that is something I would approve.

Now if the cash shop used something were you did not get any "booster items" or elite gear it would be nice. Something like selling tickets to a locked zone or a personal instance would be ideal.

Also, cash shop could make a lot for selling tickets to enter routine events.

Like a brackett match. You enter and then wait till you have 16 players. Then a tourny can begin. A prize can be what ever. In something like this, I do see the prize being something like an elite item as long as its balnced to the char level.

In a fantasy based world, it would be like having the kingdom festivals.

Even selling tickets for lotteries. Where the prize is IRL prize.

See cash shops should go both ways. If your willing to dish out real $$ for things, they should be willing to dishout IRL prizes too. In some cases this would be cheaper than have a small group of developers creating certain events.

That or some sort of system as you explained above, where you get access to a certain zone.
Yeah, something like 500 eyes of a gorgon and 500 instore credit would be a good idea. You still have to make an effort to get the goods.

LOS ANGELES--Dungeon Runners isn't aiming to be just another fantasy-themed online role-playing game amid an ocean of other fantasy-themed online role-playing games available for the PC. Designed internally by NCsoft, Dungeon Runners is a single- and multiplayer RPG that, in some ways, sounds not unlike an update of the Diablo style of dungeon-crawling gameplay, but with a 3D graphics engine that both technically and aesthetically resembles the biggest MMO in the free world, World of Warcraft. Speaking of free, guess what? If you want to download and play the game, it won't cost you a dime, but if you want to access every piece of content the game has to offer, you'll have to pay some reportedly small fees. The game uses a content payment system that gives you access to specific, elite items and other currently unspecified content. Oh, and did we mention that it looks a fair bit like World of Warcraft?

Dungeon Runners will be built for both solo and multiplayer play. You'll be able to take your character to any available server and join up with like-minded players for battle. The game will include three specific character classes: warrior, warlock, and ranger. You'll be able to customize your character in a number of ways, although how deep that customization system is has yet to be announced. There will be plenty of collectible items, weapons, and clothing types, including plenty of elite items and even some randomized items with attributes that generate on the fly.

The action itself is pure action RPG all the way. It doesn't even include any form of dice-rolling in its combat. If you hit someone, you'll hit them, straight up. The game is built to be a more-accessible brand of MMORPG, with lots of built-in design conventions made to make the experience easier to play. Obelisks are set up in each town, and with them, you can save specific travel points to quickly access key areas. The game also includes short regeneration times, and no real death penalty to speak of. You're still warped to a graveyard whenever you die, but you're immediately alive the second you respawn.

Interestingly enough, the most Diablo-esque thing about Dungeon Runners is the fact that it will feature randomly generated instances. The instances will always maintain the same aesthetic feel and enemy types, but the placement of everything is never the same twice. Oddly enough, during our demo, one of the random instances actually generated a boss character in the opening room. Hey, the whole randomly generated dungeon thing worked well in Diablo, though perhaps not so much in more recent games.

Dungeon Runners seems like it could be an amusing addition to the MMORPG market when it comes out later this year, if only for its unique pricing structure and general inspirations. We'll be sure to bring you more on Dungeon Runners in the coming weeks.
This game looks so good ^^
