    Default DVD drive problems.

Well since my own dvd drive broke down because it was kind of old, i've putten in an old HL DT ST DVDRRW GWA 4164B. The thing is though, it won't read any DVD's or blank CD/DVD/DVD DL, it does read normal CD's with media on it though. Already updated the firmware and installed a IDE driver and it still doesn't work. Anyone here knows a fix?

btw, I know it's a OEM type. It should work after crossflashing, even though I don't really know how.

Does it read normal CD's without problem or does it take a while to get it read?

I should update this but all my effort went into writing this lousy excuse.

Reads them without problems. The only thing it doesn't read are DVD's or Blank CD, DVD and DVD DL.

That pretty much excludes a damaged/dirty laser.

nope. I think because it's a GWA model, wich means it's OEM. Specially for that system and I just took it out. I thought about crossflashing it, but I don't know where the hell I should start and how to. So I thought there would be some others ways. Reason I came to ask it here. There shouldn't be anything wrong with the laser, cause then it shouldn't read any disc.
