Giraffe by J.M. Ledgard. It's a more realistic novel with animal protagonists (Giraffes). It's absolutely heartbreaking and very beautifully written.

This; it's pretty decent, actually. I usually detest classical literature and allegories, but this one is definitely worth reading.

Yeah; I don't drop by general often. And game dev is fairly dead. So you don't see me much

All I've read and enjoyed are Animal Farm and the two by Jack London that Xeno posted.

Blech, Animal Farm. Overstated and oversimplified look at how socialism takes over a society. Students are better off studying the subject directly since it's infinitely more interesting to see how it happens (and continues to happen) in real life rather than just a bunch of pigs dicking around. Not to say that it's not an important book, but for the layman there are better ways of approaching the subject. Maybe I'm just biased to the fact that in history it's already happened to actual, living people and has been studied well enough that an average person can pick up a book and see very clearly how it happens. No cartoonish animals necessary.

But then again I could just be being an elitist right now. Kick me if I do it again.

Edit: and somewhat related to Animal Farm, I find Nineteen Eighty-Four to be ridiculously overrated. I explained it here: http://www.onrpg.com/boards/155613-p...2/#post2185376
