Lolque? It is like posting an article about Windows 95 and expect people to "WOW!" at it. You have to be completely green to computers to not know that.

Private servers are good for lazy people who enjoy playing a game for a week or two.. Private servers are not worth staying with seeing 90% of them will die sooner or later due to lazy admins, lack of donations etc.

I played a fair few ro ps in my time just for a quick pvp thrill for a week or two then i would move on and try something different.

If you decide to donate a large sum of money to a private server then you're going to get owned in the end and most likely feel hard done by, but that's the way it is.. most of these private server owners are in it for the money and couldn't care less if you lost all your donation money

"i'm gonna play a private server because it's easier to level than the normal server."
"oh no my character is gone, private servers suck."
"hey dip shit, you got to 80 in 3 hours, calm down, here's another server."

Id believe this article if it was talking about private servers from a few years back. The severs now are pretty decent depending on the game.

this post just made me laugh, i mean who would buy something from a pserver. come on, how stupid can you be xD

and for a second point, i just cant imagine some one thinking that a pserver would last forever. obviously they are going to close after a while. not like the host will work on their spare time project forever.
such obvious facts that any person with some logic in their brain can pull out of their a**.

Discussing private servers in general is allowed. Furthermore, there has been an article about private servers on OnRPG. It did not interest me, but make sure to take a look!

I recently tried a WoW P-server and it would randomly crash and when I log in again, I would lose the last quest I did

I don't understand how private servers are better than the retail servers. I'll use WoW as an example. First off you're playing an emulated code. It doesn't matter how Blizz like the server rates are or how close the dmg are to the retail version, it's still not like the retail rates used in the official servers. Those private server rates are emulated. Now when I say it's emulated, I'm saying those rates are a estimated guess. It might be spot on or it can be exactly close. Thus comes the definition of emulation: a simulation.

In almost all WoW private servers, depending on the database used on the server or how it was created, one class seems to triumph them all. Rogues and glass cannon Warlocks seem to dominate all private servers, and you know what? That's really lame. I rather would pay for a subscription than a bunch play with of a bunch of kids who just spam Sinister Strike + Eviscerate or get slammed by dots that doesn't seem to wear off till you die.

I used WoW as an example for a reason. Most people play on WoW private servers because of the XP rate in the retail servers are 'too bad' or 'too slow to level'. Anyone who has played WoW to a respectable level or has a high level main would disagree with that. You can literally get to level 60 in 1-2 weeks. If it takes you any longer, you're doing something wrong or you're too lazy to read the quest logs.

You're suggesting that Rogues aren't like that on Retail, when that's not the case at all. Also, whoever thinks that WoW's rates are too low should be shot repeatedly, because it's just not the case.

Probably talking about schthack's PSOBB server....yah...I believe that's been up longer now than the official one ever was.

Another example of what I was talking about earlier would be SWGemu, way more people seem to play that than retail nowaday's and the reason for that is because SOE ****ed the game up and refused to change it back...so....there's more to pservers than just "you don't have to pay".

Oh and WoW pservers are what made me want to buy WoW and play it for about 3 months total.

Sounds like mad game companies trying to threaten people who play on private servers. I bet these game companies would increase their game costs/monthly fees by 3 to 4 times if it weren't for private servers.

Also sounds very biased, probably written by a gaming company suffering from private servers.

    Greedy.

    1. False
    2. Yeah very true in some cases.
    3. So what do you can people who played official and private sever.

I'm pretty sure we all realize that almost all mmos have grind.
But your not taking into account that there are also high, low, and mid severs.
Once and another generalization with no facts to back it up.

Well this is my experience...and most of people in my country...(Also my english isnt perfect)

I started playing games on private servers....old school MU/Ragnarok Online/Lineage 2/Diablo/And a lot of olds and new...

    The better one were Ragnarok Online/WoW TBC/MU Online/Lineage 2

Those 4 were almost retail like... and GM werent people uncapable....Most of them are in University studying computer things and take "Private Servers" and their core like hobby.

Most of those server werent "FUN"... they were Just like Blizzard... Rates x1/Drops x1/ Etc x1

And i must say...i dont regret playing on PServers...actually i would do it again and again...

Some of the servers i have played they had like 3000 players online... so it was a lot of people....

Of course with new expansions and things servers became a bit unstable and buggy...but it will always have a "perfect" time... for World of warcraft, "TBC" was the best time for PServers... it was awesome...some dungeons/raids had script 100% just like blizzard...

    And every event worked fine....

But i can say...those were "gold times" for PServer....Some emulators/servers are just crappy for new games like SWGEMU/RF Online/Etc...

I must say i love F2P games and Betas... but community will be always better on my old PServers....

Today i still play on PServers....just chatting with my friends.... I love B2P Games...because i have money to bought them....but Monthly fees are different...i can pay a few months but then it becames hard :/

So i guess ill just wait for GW2 and play F2P games... but i love a lot SW KOTOR and i will want to try SWTOR.

And i must say...a lot of friends with money wich loved World of warcraft moved up to blizz thanks to PServers...because before they would never waste their money on monthly fees.

but certain RO pservers were some of the best gaming experiences ive ever had.
    had brilliant communities,

no offence to gravity who run the official servers,
but when a small community drivin team of people can create a bot free, more updated server then a company that has paid employees, then your doing something wrong. lol

I agree with the bold part, but you do know that pservers did not even have half of half of half of half of the amount of players than the official servers right? I mean they even had more problems to worry about.. pservers took all of the original servers updates they did not create them, and while p servers dealt with 100's of people a 1000 at most, the retail version dealt with way more. So of course p servers would have better luck with keeping bots away when they can hand pick the botterss out.
