i have a 360 arcade, annnd no hard drive, i plan on getting one but i never reallley needeed one, do i need one to play halo reach live?

Yes, since once you enable online it'll update.

You probably have a new copy of Halo 3 with all the updates? Since Halo 3 is out for some times now.
