Default Oh Japan, You So Weird!

Nothing quite says "awkward Japanese video game stereotypes" like the trailer for the just revealed Gal Gun. Uncomfortable camera shots of Japanese high school girls, bizarre moan-like noises coming from said high school girls, and, of course, tentacles abound in the game's debut trailer (found after the break).

The game itself is an on-rails shooter in which you control the hand of "the most popular guy in school," who's trying to find his dream girl by shooting every lady he sees with a heart-firing pistol. Gal Gun is being developed by Inti Creates -- the folks behind Mega Man 9 and 10 -- so don't expect winning over the ladies to be easy.

This is seriously not helping the image of Japan......but most of us should already know about these types of fetishes.

Maybe they are trying to get more popularity on the Xbox 360 since they are releasing the game on it.

But seriously they even had to add tentacles....

    Oh Japan......You so crazy!

Yah but you have to wonder sometimes...

I mean right now Japan is going through a huge problem.
They have too many older citizens retiring and not enough younger folk taking those jobs.
There is a huge imbalance of old to young.

There are even companies paying their employees to have children.

And while I understand economic concerns may be stopping people from having a child, there seems to be other things that may cause it too.

If he doesn't know what the dog face mask is based on in this picture then maybe he should be the one getting lectured.

I just looked at the picture earlier to see all the masks and noticed that one.
I instantly knew what it was based on.

Why should I lecture anyone here on what they find weird? It is totally up to you.
I'm at liberty to have an opinion on the matter though, given that this is a disucssion forum, something people here tend to forget the moment somebody actually replies to their posts...

I'll still hold my position that Japan's weirdness is highly overrated though, and is mainly due to ingrained euro/american attitudes which makes most people unable to see the weirdness in their own countries.

Statistically speaking though, these kinds of titles are of little to no relevance to your average Japanese person.
Even when a game sells really well(Dragon quest, FF etc), and hits 10 million marks etc, it is still only a small minority of the Japanese total population.
However games like these do not even sell really well by ordinairy standard. Similarly, they're aimed at a certain market, which consist of people who buy all these kinds of games.

The dog btw, looks like Hachiko. Whether I knew this or not, you should know Irony, is completely irrelevant to this issue.

I agree with just about everything you said aside from the dangerous issue.

You forget that Japan is a really small country close to the size of some states.

Usually the high crime rate is concentrated in the same usual areas.

And what I meant by the age difference is that their is a problem with too many older people retiring and not enough younger folk taking those jobs.

Sure other countries experience it but Japan has it really bad.

I think they are the leading country with the highest ratio of longer lived citizens and this creates an imbalance.

I also noticed when visiting certain areas out in the country (Biei, Hokkaidō is especially beautiful) that the population in certain country areas are mostly older citizens while the younger ones continue to move to the city.
And yes even America has done this although America has opted for large monopoly business over farming which is something I deplore.
I guess Japan will have to follow that.

And yes I do agree looking at cartoon girls is much better than seeing that aspect in reality although it is still disturbing.
I do not want to pass off my opinion as just emotional because I am rather more logical. I am curious as to why these people have these certain fetishes.
I like to understand certain things foreign to my own, disturbing or otherwise.

You sound like a person that would be nice to get a drink/bite to eat with.
If I was still in Japan and met you I would have treated you to a drink and something to eat.
Even if it's a bit aways from where you are at now Kagoshima has some great food.
