**I looked for an Eve Online Forum on the site to post this in but there wasn't one**
Hello fellow gamers,
I created a character (Forever Drifting) on Eve Online and moved him into 0.0 territory (lawless territory) within one minute of creation. I did this because I am one of those weird individuals who enjoys a challenge and does not like norms. I am -NOT- an experienced Eve online player at all. I am however fairly experienced at mmo games in general. I have created a blog to actually document my trials and feats of victory as I progress through the Eve Online world from the ground up.
I find the blog to be an amazing instrument that makes me fully emerge myself within Eve at times, while increasing my enjoyment ten-fold. The emersion can be so griping at times that I starting thinking as if I -was- my character. And is that not the point of most if not all fantasy / sci-fi genre MMOs? To lose oneself within their fantasy world. This blog has forced me to interact with people a lot more often than I normally would on another MMO. How often do many of us find ourselves playing an MMO and wind up grinding out levels and quests 2/3 to 3/4 of the time without help or virtually any interaction with others? You just get in a zone, start leveling/exping, and the MMO turns into a single player experience...and WAAM you are at end game content.
There is no end game content in Eve!! It is a forever evolving game within a sandbox player run world. There should be NO REASON to hurry yourself through this game. Your skills train over real life time (increasing your attributes can speed this up slightly). When this divine awakening occured to me, it rocked me to the very core. You mean I can't grind out my skills to become "maxed" in a week? ROCKED me to the CORE. Power comes from information obtained throughout your travels in the game. Knowledge really is power in this game. EVERY little action has an effect on the galaxy (this is referred to as the butterfly effect in the game). Wealth can be obtained through 1000 different ways. And most important is unlike most games, grinding is NOT the only answer. BLASPHEMY!!
Hopefully my blog will encourage future gamers to actually give Eve a try. I try to be fairly detailed about my day to day events in order to give non Eve gamers a little bit of a desire to -want- to be in this mythical universe of Eve. In addition I hope that my blog gives some comic relief to current Eve players, be they as new as I am or a seasoned veteran. The sheer depth of Eve is staggering at times so you have to find your fun where you can. I hope you enjoy the blog as much as I am enjoying writing it.
