The Japanese are ultra-conformist with some very bizarre tastes. As a westerner, I generally hate their games. And they generally hate ours. You can’t “sell” them on a sandbox game anymore than you can sell me on a on-the-rails JRPG with a lead character who looks like a hermaphrodite with a drunk hairdresser. Microsoft, in particular, wasted WAY too much energy trying to sell the 360 in Japan when they should have been focusing their energies on their bread-and-butter. Just accept that Japan and the west are not going to ever see eye-to-eye, and move on.

Meh they don't just ignore american video game developers, they do it too all of them.

    So I don't think it's that.

There may be a lot of older Japanese citizens who hate Americans for those atomic bombings but I doubt many of those are gamers. Just like how there may be some older Chinese citizens who hate the Japanese for the "**** of Nanking".

Even if America is bigoted to other countries the gamer demographic is more excepting with a larger variety in developers from different countries. Europe is even more diverse.

it's also because japan is as someone said Xenophobic and racist.
they just don't like foreigners. i blame the weeaboos.
Well hopefully as the generations pass by, citizens from all countries will realize the fact that we are all of the same species and to stop grouping people together and claiming superiority over them.

Japan, while remaining a ethnocentric country for most of it's history was not always xenophobic. It seemed when they decided to become more industrialized and global that this problem occurred. Especially when the Emperor, who was thought to be like a god, decided to conquer the rest of the world to proclaim his superiority.
So they started to raise the citizens from a young age to hate other countries to ready them for war.

And while this Xenophobia was well spread throughout Japan in the past, it seems to have dwindled.
I think instead of it being Xenophobic it is actually just extreme Nationalistic values.
Like how they will buy products from their country even if they are a lot more expensive than the foreign products.
You can argue that they are kind of the same thing but there are differences.

I'm with Greed on this one

I can't really point to much and say "They are missing out"
In fact, I can see some titles there I know I'm jealous of.
