I went to a vocational school for networking classes, and talked to a LOT of network administrators.

A similar question came up, and honestly, they told us they know every single thing you do. They keep back logs of every single thing you do. And even if they're not calling you out immediately for breaking the rules, they are building a case on your for doing the things you've done. They are waiting for you to do it again.

Maybe you forgot your wallet, so you steal a pack of gum from a store.

Go without gum, it's not like you're dying and stole some food to survive.

Alright, so now you stole. Let's say you get caught. In reality, the person who caught you, the owner, would act differently:

For a rich doctor, he would say sorry I forgot my wallet and wanted this pack of gum for when I go back to the hospital.

The guy would either;

1. Say it's fine, take the gum back, and nothing else would happen.
2. Give him the gum free.
3. Say he would trust him to come back and pay for it later when he has his wallet.


For a random homeless person, he would say sorry.

The guy would either;

1. Yell at him angrily and tell him to put the gum back and get out.
2. Yell at him angrily and threaten to call the cops if he doesn't get out.
3. Take the gum back and tell him to get out.

It could easily be reversed.

For the doctor, the owner would first be like, "What's a supposed good citizen doing stealing?" Then, "You have plenty of moneys, come back with your wallet and then buy the gum."


For the homeless, "You poor starving homeless dude, you just wanted some gum? Alright, here you go."

I think it's great to understand the beliefs of others, and to argue your beliefs back and forth.

Yeah, it COULD be reversed, but it was just a very on-the-spot general example, and the odds are much greater that he'd be nicer to the doctor even if he was nice to both. Not many people would feel bad for someone that is homeless and just tried to rob them. I mean if a homeless guy came up and reached into your pocket, would you feel more obliged to give him free stuff than if he was sitting on the street politely asking?

Use google advanced search to find http downloads for your music, it's not technically legal but they can't catch you doing it so it doesn't matter.

Stream movies or again, find http downloads.

You can torrent games and apps because no one gives a shit about that enough to monitor it.

I think a common misconception is that colleges and ISP's actually give a shit about the morality involved in you downloading copyrighted material, they don't care, they just want to keep the RIAA off of their backs. So as long as you do it in a way that the RIAA can't monitor you're good to go.
