Check out books on dogs at your local library?
This sounds like a problem that isn't completely out of the ordinary.

Also be ready to spend a lot of time and patience now and do not have some sort of expectations that are only resulting in completely ruining your dogs live. You likely might not be able to fix this at all now.

I personally would think about getting a new leash as one way out; it might be easier for him to accept a different one.

I like the new leash idea, and when it comes to the dog, i tend to do have alot of patience, not sure why, but thanks alot

    Aw, such a cutie, lol.

Though I recommend not using a leash, just walk him without one if you can.

I would love to but.. He's just so hyper, the moment he see's another animal or even a person, he jolts off in their direction and whenever you get up to him, he runs and and barks at you thinking you want to play and or leave him the eff alone

Well it seems your family has pretty much implemented this fear into your dog and I don't see it ever getting better. Either take it out back or let it go one night and the coyotes should get it by sun up.

i have a 2 year old red nosed pit bull and we use one of those like 40 foot long heavy duty cables and just hook him up to in the front yard that's hooked around a big tree that to use the bathroom and mess around in the front yard

so maybe you could try one of those, better than letting him run free for sure and its not a leash either

(really wish we had a fenced in backyard)

Get a new family, because yours suck.

But really, get a leash that looks a lot different and don't let anybody else use it. That is the important part. Sounds like your family likes the current situation, so they would be happy to replicate it with a new leash.

Aw man that blows. Yr family are a bunch of jerks.

Try getting a new leash? And talk to yr family about never ever threatening yr dog since that's sadistic and unhealthy to the dog. Negative reinforcement should be used as seldom as possible.

Give yr dog a good scratching behind the ears for me!
