Default Can you learn to play guitar through a game?

I'm talking about games like Rock Band, Guitar Hero, Power Gig, etc. Do they legitimately teach you how to play a real guitar? I'm asking 'cuz I got a sudden random urge to learn how to play a guitar .

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I searched but found nothing.

Guitar Hero, no. The new Rock Band will have a "Pro Guitar" that has buttons in place of the strings, but looks like a failure. Pay for lessons if you want to get good. Internet tutorials are all-right but mostly useless.

Guitar hero and rockband have no strings on their guitars. Neither do they have the finger placement thingies (forgot what they're called).

    Do the math.

I hear if you play Power Gig with your actual guitar, you'll learn how to play songs on advanced mode.

I'll never understand why people say that playing Guitar Hero on Expert is as hard as playing real guitar.

I've heard it said and it's not true.

Go to the Power Gig website>guitar>lessons. Some pretty easy to understand lessons. Cameraman suck balls though.

this, it is a pretty fun way to stretch your fingers and get them used to swift motions if you wanna play lead or so. but thats just as easily done picking up a real guitar and doing some warm ups

I think just being musically inclined and having rhythm makes it easier to be good at real guitar and Guitar Hero. I don't think being good at Guitar Hero helps you learn guitar, unless you didn't know how to press with your fingers prior to playing the game

And even though it's been posted in here twice already, people still don't even seem to realize that yes, it does have strings, and it is a guitar. lawls

But shouldnt the games with the real guitar help at least a little?

I thought the new guitar was suppose to allow you to use "6 string" and all the frets (just not physically being there). I could have been wrong, but if you r really looking for a game to do it, that might be your best option for you to start if you would rather do a game and not learn via a real guitar and tutor.
