xlinkkai has a pretty large population now still.
I guess if you have a PS3, just go for ad-hoc party software.

When I owned my PSP, I had this game and you can play it online right out of the box.

OT: I found the game hard to play with the PSP controls. MY oldest didnt have problems though. He joyed the online gameplay a lot.

I'm hoping MHP3 will have infastructure play for US/EU regions.
    It seriously needs it.

So I had a question as I was reading up about all of this, if you put custom firmware onto the PSP are you still able to play online with games like MHF and phantasy star?

It also looks like for the xlink kai I would need to spend about 80 bucks on the PSP itself (refurbished), 15~20 bucks on MHF, and about 30 bucks for a wifi network adapter....lol

That kind of defeats the purpose of portable gaming if you have to be at a stationary PS3 to play online. May aswell play a PS3 game online.

It really depends on how you're trying to connect to online games. Custom Firmware isn't matched up with Official Firmware(OFW is at something like 6.31 and CFW is at 5.50), so you can't access the PSN in the normal way. I heard something about a home brew app awhile back, but I haven't tried it myself. To play games online you would need something like xlink kai.

And yes, if you don't have a wireless router in your home, you need to buy one.

@The people who were talking about Ad Hoc Party - Gunna assume you link your PSP with your PS3 and then sign into PSN? Do you need latest OFW to be able to use it? <_<

@Thetake: You can link your PSP to your PS3 over the internet. So you don't have to be sitting there to link your psp to your ps3. EDIT: nevermind. Just watched that vid. If you have to do it like that, that sucks. Especially since you can in fact link your psp to your ps3 via the interwebs. :|

Ah I see, I would be using xlink kai anyways so I won't worry about it unless I plan on playing something other than monster hunter in which case I can reverse CFW right?

Also wondering, what other MMO's/online games are there on the PSP that are notable? (or just games on it in general I should check out lol)

Xlink Kai is the way to go.

It works, i've played with my friend countless times over the net, though i've since lost the program along with my wireless adaptor.

That said, games on the PSP can actually be played online!

Also Korncob, you might want to check out God Eater, i've heard of an english patch floating about somewhere.

The game is awesome, worth the purchase, better then vindictus. The online portion is fun (if you can get it up and running), but single player alone is amazing.

But before buying it, i would try Vindictus for free and see if you are into that style of game play.

I have MHU for PSP and I played it for 350hours. Its best game for PSP in my opinion. Its sure worth Buying this game. And remember, Dont buy the first one, cuz Unite have everything that MH1, MH2 and even more, and its most populated at xlink kai. Game itself dont have online game, only ad-hoc (with people who sit nearby). To play online you need Xlink Kai ( You will always find a room to play if you will be atleast HR6) or Ad-Hoc Party for PS3(witch is not very populated. Tried playing on it but I couldnt find anyone to play with).

Games that have online multiplayer is:
-Phantasy Star Portable 2 ( If you have CFW you will need to get PSNLover to play online)
-Untold Legends Warriors Code( Its Diablo like RPG. Almost no one playing this one, but at evening you will surely find someone to PvP or CoOp with)
there are shooters like Resistance Retribution, or Killzone too.

Yah I won't bother with shooters I'm terrible with analog sticks for them xD

Ah so I noticed PSNlover as well >> that makes sense, good because I heard the original browser and such is kinda slow x..x

I also found a good network adapter for about 30 bucks ( http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...966&CatId=2688 ) so that shouldn't be a huge problem since it says lots of people use this specific one and it works fine.

Also I can play ps1 games with CFW? Good lord that's amazing since my psone got stolen years ago x..x that in itself is worth it.

Yes, you can switch from CFW to OFW quite easily. The way back is a little more involved - not sure if there is home-brew to make the process easier, I just always took it as having to re-hack the PSP.

As far as PSP games go(some have online, others are just kick ***):

    Kingdom hearts: Birth by Sleep
    Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
God of War: Chains of Olympus / God of War: Ghost of Sparta
God Eater (unsure if it has online or not)
    Phantasy Star Portable 2 (online)
Any old PSX game that you liked

EDIT: You don't need CFW to run PSX games(if you get them off the PSN). They're officially supported by SONY.

Ah thanks, would I have to pay for the PSX games though if I get them off of PSN? I've already bought most of the things I had before they just got stolen from me by an old ex-boyfriend of an ex-step sister....kind of a long story.

Also I played vindictus but I didn't enjoy it that much because I don't like the style the characters are in....they looked really ******ed until upper levels and once you finished all of the stages there wasn't much to do (wasn't many stages either)

Kind of the same reason I didn't enjoy PSObb was because once I finished the stages I didn't really feel like redoing them, however I did like PSU a lot more I don't remember why though..

You would have to buy them again, yes. Most of the games are $6.99(plus tax), more popular games(Final Fantasy, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night) are $9.99+tax.

You do need CFW if you plan on using alternate routes.

Does anyone else agree that MHFU was just MHF2 expansion? I had no problem buying it, it's worth it for the amount of time I play it, but seriously. Not many changes.

Yah I guess I'll be doing those "alternative routes" you speak of because I can't afford 10 bucks for games I bought like 8~10 years ago....not to mention that's way too much for them..lol

Thanks for all the help guys, pretty much got this decided....I thought about getting a wii for tri but there's no other games i'd want on wii besides maybe red steel that I've seen...and I wouldn't be able to carry it with me xD plus it'd be expensive.

Here's to hoping after-christmas sales are like 75% off or something at gamestop ! D:
