Reputation: 119I've played both and I love HoN but it's way too tough for me to learn all the things about it....the game is a lot tougher in general compared to LoL so be prepared to get owned a lot and put a ton of time into learning the game.
What korncob said. And you kind of need a thick skin too.
Reputation: 19HoN is better than LoL and worse than DotA, but can be valid waiting for Dota 2.
Its a really good game... dont cry if you get yelled at though... just take their advice that they yell at you and you will improve.. Need at least 200 games I would say to be even close to average..
Reputation: 10Played both + Dota 5.54 to present and I would say HoN is good if you like DotA. If you like LoL I suggest you stay with LoL but if you're looking for a more stressful game try HoN.I don't know about LoL but in HoN/DotA games can be decided by lineups alone(unless the people playing are shitty ones.).
About the free trial don't even think about doing that because you won't get into ranked games and the guy's you'll play with are shitty players that always leave. I suggest you borrow an account from a friend to see what ranked games play.
Reputation: 39In my most humble opinion:
HoN beats the shit out of LoL and actual DoTA
LoL is slightly subpar as compared to actual DoTA in terms of gameplay,
But Storm of the Imperial Sanctum (Starcraft 2 DoTA) beats the shit out of all of them.
EDIT: I recommend you purchase Starcraft 2, because not only is there multiple DoTA styled maps, you can also play thousands of other custom maps as well as classic style league matches and single player.
SC2 is simply just the best rts atm. Why buy HoN where theres a shitty community and only one play style when you could play the same thing plus more on SC2.
Reputation: 25if LoL is repetitive to you, then HoN would be the same as well.
Reputation: 12If you found LoL repetitive, then you will probably feel the same about HoN, LoL atleast has a little bit more motivation as you can gain IP and buy champs/runes.
Reputation: 62Take L.O.L add a better community add a double dose of competitiveness.
Then you pretty much have HoN, oh not to forget graphically HoN is less cartoon-styled, not that i have anything against League of legends graphics.
Does anyone have the free trial? It would be awesome if I got one.![]()
Reputation: 10I would say HoN has a pretty terrible community in all honesty.
Thats not saying LoL has a good one, but still.

Gets better once you get into higher levels (25+), low level is extremely lulzy.
People complain about matchmaking when they are level 10 fighting 30's, when 9 times out of 10 its because the 30 queued with the low level. If a 30 queues with anyone lower than 20ish it will generally match you with people 15-20. So naturally they complain.
You also have to take into account that the game is free, so your going to get many people trying it when they have never played anything like it. Since its an easy game to get into, they stay. Where as in HoN, people get crushed, insulted every game, to the point where they quit because they decide it isnt worth it, usually on the free trial.
I've done maybe... 600 games of League of legends. I've played every champion more than once. I don't plan on quiting but I want to try something new.
Edit: I got a trial from here:

Reputation: 119This is true however I've had waaaaay too many games where I've been against garen mordekaiser vladimir etc. basically from what I've played in LoL there's just plain too many FOTM character's that are in just about every game I play...
Is it like that in HoN? In the unofficial games I always saw different characters but again that was unofficial so I have no clue.
Reputation: 10Heroes of Newerth is a recommended game.
One of the best games in the Dota genre IMO.
Anyways, I think this might help you decide:

HoN > DotA > LoL
HoN took what DotA had and made it better.
DotA is a classic.
LoL added a lot of new features, but the game seemed dumbed down and simple. Definitely did not have that DotA feel. No one in the community can play the game, and the game just s****feeds you a lot (To the point where things get boring almost).
All are good, LoL just isn't as fun in my opinion. And since HoN is retail, chances are you will encounter more players who know what they are doing.
HoN took what DotA had and made it worse, trying to ride the LoL popularity.
DotA is the ****ing epic classic.. is DotA!
LoL is just a different game but more original than HoN.
All are good ( joke ), LoL is for casual player who dont know what the hell is dota. And since HoN is retail, you need to pay 30$ to play with noobs in a failed copy of dota.
the post above me is a fanboy and not from one who tryed them all for years.
Reputation: 41LoL will never be better than HoN because its for noobs and just too easy+
unbalanced.
but HoN will be not the number 1 because the main game is always the
number one so Dota > HoN > LoL
HoN did a great job with dota + the heroes are more balanced than the LoL
ones..Seriously (to all the LoL fanboys) i think you just joined this scene
since LoL..if you had played dota (league/clan wars) you should know that
LoL sucks and HoN is your best choice as a dota player
noob, fanboy and your story was rlly cool bro -.-DotA > LoL > HoN
