    Default Pets in MMO?

    I dunno, I was recently reading the Argos interview and they said that basically every game seems to have a pet system and that theirs will function more than cosmetically. Well....

    Call me a little crazy, but I LOVE IT when pets in Games are strictly cosmetic. To me, they are there primarily just for the visual appeal and a mild achievement you got towards. Much like in Perfect World and AdventureQuest Worlds. Even Aion (though I am aware some pets are more than cosmetic). I would gladly sacrifice some fight animation to see a dog chase its tail around. While I fight.

    Kinda like a sweet diversion on top of talking with players at the local watering hole, as it were. Does anyone else feel this way, or do you feel compelled to want pets doing something?

    If i ever had a pet in an mmo id like at least for it to pick up the in game currency and give me some stat buffs other than that my pet would probablly need food if its health went down low enough...or some medicinal herb from a shop 20 billion miles from my training spot.so as for fighting alongside me.thats a no.

    Yeah. Functional but hardly an advantage pets are quite welcoming as well. Such as Dailies (ones that follow across the world map randomly; and other players can use it as well), or an extra 3 inventory spots so you never lose that certain item is all dandy. But always with the attacking and providing no sense of accomplishment having them? Eh, unless your class is like a Summoner/Necromancer/generic pet combat class, just leaves a sour taste in your mouth imo...

    functional pets are pretty good as long as everyone can get them. like in rappelz, everyone had the same chances of caching pets, that was awesome. rappelz had the best pet system out there, i miss it
    training/grinding up your pet can be very motivating

    I HATE Pet Systems XP But then again, I don't like pets IRL either, I think in an MMO, the focus should be on building MY character not some dumb support animal XD and I am aware this is a VERY unpopular opinion, but it seems every game has some stupid secondary character/animal you have to manage XP

    I'm liking the Aion pet system, it's like you feed your pet and it poops out mats. There's no need to level the critter either and they come with different sort of abilities as well, like warning you when someone from an opposite faction is close or acting like a pack mule.

    I don't like pets as well.

    if it's purely for looks like in Ragnarok Online it's fine... But when they give buffs or fight along you it's just bad.

    It's an online game, if you want buffs or someone to fight along you then party...

    Pets are killing parties. ;

    I don't mind non-combat pets or combat pets that are 100% controlled by an "Assist Me" AI. I despise pets like the one's in WoW though. I used to only play ranged physical dps classes, but I hated hunters. I did not want a pet, but I had to have one and I had to use it to fight. It sucked then and still sucks now.

    I like the pet system in PW. You can have cute cosmetic pets, but classes like venomancer can get combat ones. Makes more sense and is a lot more balanced.

    The pet system in rappelz prolly was the one i liked the most among all mmorpgs...however the way to obtain them was quite bad...(not taming, but grinding for cards)

    Rappelz indeed has the best pet systems. Not perfect, but the best.
    Dual-Summoning is epic too.

    I don't care much for cosmetic pets though.

    I think having pets only for comestic purpose only is good, unless it's your class EX: Necro,Hunter, etc etc.

    Just thought of my favorite pets, surprised I had forgotten.

    Necromancer/Ranger in Guild wars. You get a beast type pet + undead minions. How awesome is that?!

    Zentia has the best pet and mount system out there.
    Most of the monsters you encounter can be captured and made into a pet or sometimes a mount. the best thing is that there are these rare pets that if you are lucky will appear while hunting;

    Mmm... Yeah, as long as you can't while targetting a person in PvP (depending on the game- when I played Runescape the pvp was limited to inventory space at times so yeah thats what I'm getting at).
