    Default White Power!?

Because when I say black power people give me a strange look.

But eh they just mad cuz I be solid and bump ready.

Also maybe they think I'm trying to smuggle anthrax or something.

    I dunno.

I hate when blacks talk about minorities they only mention "People of Color" (aka blacks and Hispanics) when really there are even smaller minorities then those people (I'm Pacific Islander). But hm I do enjoy watching the Congressional Black Caucus on C-Span. It's fun to watch, maybe I'm a hypocrite for loving hypocrites. Meh.

I'm also sick of when people who were born in America refer to themselves as their parent's, grandparent's or ancestor's ethnicity and then American. It just grinds my gears.

    Back to you Tom.

I don't see any problem with holding onto yr ancestors traditions/language/sense of identity when you move to a new country. as long as you're not using it as an excuse to be hateful towards other people for being different.

then again, I live in Canada, not the USA, and things are a bit different here.

My dad was born and raised in England, and his parents are from India.

I still consider myself American. Why?

I'm not "in touch" with the cultures of England or India, but instead I am essentially American. Cosmopolitan, sure, as much as a college freshman can be, but American nonetheless.

I agree but if you were born here then you are American first.

It just always makes me feel weird when someone born in the USA prefers to be called American last.

meh, it doesn't make any difference to me if other people want to hold on to their culture. For myself, I consider myself Canadian first, I suppose, though my background is very much informed by my north Italian ancestry, and I look Irish for the most part.

It's called symbolic ethnicity. It's in any beginner level sociology textbook.

I dunno it just makes me feel like people are separating themselves when really we should all just be Americans. Individuality is great but I suppose it will always bother me till I move to Russia.

when you say American, though, you really mean "like white people", yeah? specifically, the kind of white people that non-Americans love to make fun of.

No I mean anyone born in America is American. And I also hate when people say White people or Black people but I also hate when people say Caucasian or African American. I just drive myself crazy!!!! All the time! I need Metal. Is their a song I can use to chase the demons away? I'm too cheap for therapy.

but doesn't what you just said imply that no matter how a person decides to act, or what they call themselves, they are being American?

Well I want people to be red neck proud to be American. Can't we all just dress like cowboys and get along? I'm getting so passionate my panties are soaking wet.

What I find interesting, is how, appart from the U.S I guess, only people of colour living in a "white" country call themselves "Norwegian-vietnamese", "French-****stani" etc.

If a white guy moved to India, China, Japan, etc, and called himself "Indo-Swedish", "German-Chinese" or "Italian-Japanese", people would go wtf, and look at him like he was mad.
