    Default New processor any recomendations?

Last summer I got a Radeon HD 5770 and a new power supply but I feel lately my little AMD 64 X2 Dual core 5600+ 2.8 GHz is a little lacking and i need an upgrade in order to play some of the games on higher specs. Any reccomendations within a 100-200$ price range?

    Which motherboard do you have?

I should update this but all my effort went into writing this lousy excuse.

Well I guess that if your motherboard uses AM2, then your ram is ddr2. You would be better off with buying a new comp. You could also build one for a decent price though. You could use some stuff out of that one, but I dont think the dvd drive will. HP computers like to use OEM types, wich means it will only work on that system. If you know how to overwrite the keys, you could change the dvd type though. I suggest getting a new case to, the mid towers aren't that expensive and I suggest getting a coolermaster HAF 912 plus.

To fully upgrade you could get these:

    ASUS M4A89GTD PRO €116,-
    AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz 6MB AM3 Black Edition €117,50
    Corsair Dominator GT - 4GB 1866MHz PC3-15000 €103,50
Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus €63,-

    Total
    €400,-

The prices in dollars won't be much more, it could be even less (they make the prices higher in euro's xD).

DDR2 to DDR3 RAM doesn't change much in performance.

You could just buy a 50-60 USD motherboard with AM3 support and 90-140 USD CPU which would either be an athlon II x4 cpu or a phenom II x4 CPU.

So you will be spending 140-210 USD for an upgrade.

Yeah, 800Mhz vs 1866Mhz doesn't change much in performance

    Obviously sarcasm.

Not totally bashing you, just providing a look:

DDR2 and DDR3 are so close in performance it's not even funny.

DDR3 timings are beyond terrible and cause a loss in performance gain over much faster timings on DDR2. Basically your decision comes down to money and what the motherboard/cpu supports at this point.

Also another thing most people do not know. Anything over DDR2-800 is just 800 overclocked and anything over DDR3 1600 is just 1600 overclocked.

Of course temps do effect lifespan even if they are perfectly stable.

With a good 750watt power supply I could probably run an sli gtx 560 ti setup although it would be cutting it close depending on OCing and other hardware.
Well, like my above post said. He wants to use his computer for gaming, so I gave him a list of hardware to build a decent gaming comp. It won't be the best gaming rig you could build right now, but who needs the best of the best if it works great. Don't you think so?

Oddly I run a Phenom II 940 BE with 4gb ddr2 800 and a ATI 5770. I have yet to find a game I can't run maxed out (at 1920x1080 to clarify). Granted I did build mine with the 940 was brand new and got a 5770 after my old vid card died.

All of my stuff is running at stock speeds as well.

Crysis at 16xQAA would murder your card at that res especially with mods.

Also GTA IV modded would too.

And Metro 2033 would **** it.

Probably, just haven't tried those. But I do know all 3 have poorly optimized engines anyways.
