DDO, LOTRO, EQ2x, Forsaken World(when it releases), Perfect World (I actually found this to be great for friends, but not for everyone), BOI, Runes of Magic (Everything cash shop related can be obtained with in game cash), and Shaiya (sort of a grind, but I found it to be pretty fun running instances with friends, builds trust too with the whole perma-death thing)

Trickster gives excellent bonuses to parties though CS users have a distinct edge in PVP.
PSO is pretty much a party game. You can solo but it's not nearly as entertaining.
SEAL online gives decent exp Bonuses to Each parties which are good for solo training and at higher levels it's more than likely you'll party with a priest.
Cosmic Break is fun with friends.

FFXI hands down. Best XP in groups. Used to be all group grinding but nowdays you can solo aswell :J

Could always do something like Monday Night Combat/Battlefield Heroes/S4 League, while not mmorpgs, all three greatly reward teamwork.

Guild Wars if you don't mind ponying up the one-time fee. I found a site that sells all of the keys for pretty cheap. Got my friend a full account with the GW Trilogy and Eye of the North for around $27 total. That's not even how much the Trilogy costs at normal retail places. :P
As for F2P, I'd say just something like LOTRO or DDO. Or Flyff? Lawl.
