Default I feel more like a Retro Gamer

What about you guys? I've honestly been playing more GBA, PSX, Genesis, Dreamcast, PS2 and N64 games in the last year than I have any this gen stuff.

It seems like a lot of games traded pretty graphics for a soul! Sold their soul! Man! But no seriously....And like most JRPGs that hit NA shores now are 2D dating sims. WTF happened? I think the world is slowly hentai-ing itself to death.

I also feel weird going into Gamestop and buying PS2 games. People give me that look. You know the look? The look like there's a fat man in a thong dancing on my face. But eh I love going through the 2$ to 5$ bin and finding something to play....Awesomeness.

    She knows how to party.

Meh stop making me feel old by calling those systems retro...

My childhood days were spent playing NES games like Double Dragon and later on it was the SNES and SEGA Genesis.

If you were talking about the Intellivision then maybe I would agree with you on retro gaming.

The systems you mentioned are not that old.

It's just as ridiculous as including 80s rock into the classic rock genre.

Well they are old! And hell becoming older means you're becoming wiser!

Wiser Irony. But yeah I'm gonna be retro gaming into my 40s. Then when virtual reality comes around I will play as a girl char in anime mmorpgs. Set for life. I'll die, my brain fried from playing too much.

But yeah gaming hasn't been around as long as rock has. I don't get the analogy too well.
Video games have been around for about 40 years so it's pretty old.
Although the first video game was in the 60s I think....or maybe it was the late 50s.

Rock only started to really develop in the 1960s so it's pretty close to video game age but it has early roots in the 40s and 50s.

Although you can say video games have earlier roots too.

And getting older just means you have had more time to make more mistakes so you can yell at other people for making those same mistakes.

But yeah, games these days that trade actual gameplay/story for shiny graphics/movies dissappoint me.
I wish they could fit the complexity of a regular novel into a game and keep up with amazing visuals and sound for immersion.

I am hoping The Witcher 2 will be good.

The first one was one of the few new games that I really enjoyed.
The story did start off with a lame amnesia excuse but it got more interesting and didn't have the dumb good or bad choices seen in games like Mass Effect 1 and 2.

The choices are sometimes really hard to make because it's not clear or it's choosing the lesser of two evils.

I like games that immerse me into it's world.
I want to feel apart of it just like a good book.
To feel what the characters feel.

There are many ways of expressing complex ideas without using much dialog so you don't have to drive away people who hate reading.

I feel like a lot of the blame for shallow games goes to the publishers who cut out risky parts in games in order to gain more profit from sales.
Also the other blame goes to people who support shallow games.

I didn't say that I considered those games retro, btw. I recommended Disgaea because he mentioned buying used ps2 games, and baldur's gate II because it is an undisputed classic of computer rpgs and everyone should play it imo :]

the first games I played, and so the games that seem most retro to me, were Learning Company Games (ie. Treasure Cove, Treasure Mountain etc.), King's Quest VII, Darklands, Red Baron and original Railroad Tycoon. I didn't own a snes till around when the n64 came out, and I never owned an nes.

Retro can be easily defined. If they make a game that's a side-scrolling, 2D platformer, it has a retro style.

Retro doesn't just mean past games.

Oregon Trail is retro to me since it's one of the first games I played and it was back in school.

I would give my people all weird names in that game.

Technology sure has come a long way.
Computers are 10s of millions of times more powerful.
