Default Can I get a decent review of RIFT?

Please, I want an honest review. No fanboys and no haters.

I'm on the verge of trying this game.

    -Inb4hatersandfanboys.-

People have asked for comparisons or opinions in several threads before this one, all of which have turned into pretty much battle of the fanboys or who can point out the most faults in RIFT vs every other game.

The most logical thing anyone will probably say to you is to try the trial of Rift when it's out and decide if it's your thing, since what one person might like, you might not.

    Edited x 1,000:

Opinion: Rift is a decent game but it doesn't bring anything innovative or new to the table in terms of content (instances are instances, every feature will be likened somewhat to a feature an older game has made before) but the non-race specific and mix and match class trees provide variety and diversity in gameplay (but still, the class system in MMOs isn't new, and you'll probably get many PvP nerdragers complaining about imbalances in class combinations in battle) and the fact you get to join in group play very early like Rifting and the likes may appeal to you since it gives alternatives in how you level (depending if they fix the exp gain or not) with decent rewards (Planar gear).

I haven't invested much of my time into the head start but every time I've logged in, there's never been a lack of stuff to do on my part.

It's too early to get a proper review of the game, all you'll get is a first impression imo.

You know, excluding the mix and match class trees, you're basically talking about GW2.

Haven't looked into GW2 much but that's just my opinion on what Rift is. All games nowadays are lacking in actually living up to the claim that they have something people haven't seen before and it's majorly long-awaited.

Before anyone talks about whatever game that's currently in development - I'd rather wait to see actual proof of it than interview tactics to build up the hype train.

Young MMOs will mostly be relying on the appealing to their players in visuals and how well they package a generally old feature to feel new again.

Rift's gonna have it's fans who've been following it since the beginning up until Trion does some major screw-up that makes them quit, GW2 is gonna have the GW1 fans and WoW will have the "It's the father of MMOs and any MMOs after WoW are our clonezzz" nerds who seem to forget there were other games before it that WoW drew inspiration from. >.>

My first impression of Rift is actually quite good. Graphics are much better than most mmos currently present on the market, I did not have too many problems with lag, and it most certainly is one of the more original works that you can try. My advice is that give Rift a good look because it deserves it, I feel like many people are either completely hooked onto the game, or they loath it.

As for me I enjoy many aspects of it, and also dislike a bunch of it either. Currently since it is not really my cup of tea I will refrain from buying such an expensive game and invest into Dragon Age 2 instead =D
