    Default Quest spam in MMO's

Im currently playing LOTRO online and boy is it quest intensive.
I like quests, but the majority of the quests in LOTRO, and most MMOs for that matter, are mundane point A-B, Kill X-Y chores rather than an adventure.

Am I the only one who feels this way? And if this is universally true then why do MMO makers still follow this forumla? Especially LOTRO, considering it is a high-budget game touted to be a "WoW killer".

Sigh-- Ive been playing f2p MMOs through out my child/teenage years but as I get older and wealthier I find myself enjoying mainstream console games more than MMOs.

It seems MMOs today are plagued by either quest-fests, grind-fests and accompanied by the ever-popular slow walk-fest. I can't even remember the last MMO I truly enjoyed-- maybe runescape.

And yes, I just recently got back into f2p MMO-ing because PSN is down.

Please recommend me some MMOs too. =)

Questless and grindless games like UO are the way to go.

Ok, you know how high fructose corn syrup is like, IN EVERYTHING, and is bad for you?

Corporations could like, NOT put it into stuff, but it works on keeping customers hooked on your horrorbad product. Even, knowing this, they still do it. They don't know any other way around it, no healthy substitute. Even though they exist.

    And thats why.

Plus, maybe they just keep hiring the same people to make games, ya never knooow...

I'd prefer if they concentrated time and effort making quests that are more "epic" and have more to do with the main storyline--like toppling an evil regime. Instead, we're quite literally given random chores like "talk to Sarah and collect Safflower". Shit, I could be doing this in real life. We're in a fantasy world with endless possibilities yet the game makers want me to collect flowers? Really? You guys couldn't be more creative?

I always hear so many great ideas on these forums but none of them ever used and the developers never listen to us.

Seriously though, whats hot in the mmo scene atm? I havent been following it lately.
oh btw i playtested a shooter mmo recently but they never told me the name. it was terrible, but does anyone know the name?

When I think about it, I think Guild Wars is the MMO that really got the right idea. Fast paced combat coupled with a quick regening HP pool like COD. They just need to tweak some things. For instance, create more of a grind to create a sense of achievement. Also refine the combat so it is less of a stressful skill masher.

Personally I don't think you need to give players a linear progression of quests. They all end up with you stop reading the quest log and just getting to what you have to collect kill or talk to anyway.

I think games should just give out random requests for certain things to be done. Also players should be able to make requests that people can get rewards from.

Not a big fan of this either. You are essentially still grinding monsters, with a few trips back and forth to NPCs. Not to mention that it can be hard to find a party this way, as you will have to find someone who shares the same quests you do, as opposed to grinding in an area where lots of people are.
My favorite games are still the one that involve questless grinding.
