Default How Do You Feel About Shows on TV

list thread with explanations as to why you like those shows

The Wire (It's the ****ing Wire. it's brilliant, and you should watch it. I need to watch Homicide: Life on the Street sometime)

Generation Kill (this is actually a miniseries. David Simon is also involved in this, I forget how, as is the crazy Nordic kid from season 2 of the Wire. Based on a book by a Rolling Stone reporter embedded with the US Marines early in the Iraq invasion. the Modern Warfare games are super influenced by this show.)

Deadwood (another HBO show. Based on real events. I've heard the dialogue (why is the board saying I spelled this wrong. **** you american english!) described as being like if Shakespeare's plays had an extravagant amount of swearing. Ian McShane is godly and is the only reason I might at some point watch that new Pirates movie. Also, if you ever read Boatmurdered if you haven't seen this you will miss a lot of the funny parts. just saying. watch it, cocksuckers)

Carnivale (even more HBO. Kinda sorta Lynchian Twin Peaks vibe. Carnivals are really cool.)

Futurama (probably the best animated show. Unlike the Simpsons and Family Guy, it's always actually funny.)

Cowboy Bebop (I don't really like anime that much. I like this enough to own it on dvd. the japanese voice actors are way better. also, this show, along with the departed and a guy on another board who won't shut up about them got me into the Rolling Stones. they're pretty good I guess)

Doctor Who (I should note here that I've only ever watched the stuff with the original Doctor. it's really fun)

Blackadder (all four seasons. what's not to like. the last two seasons featured Rowan Atkinson, Tony Robinson, Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry, often all at once.)

Star Trek: TNG (My dad watches this show A LOT. I've seen a ton of it just because I'd happen to be around at the time. Patrick Stewart)

same goes for: Stargate SG-1 (Richard Dean Anderson is really awesome! so is a character who appeared on a certain other show I like. the show went on for way too long, though.), Star Trek: DS9 (Patrick Stewart is the only reason I like TNG better) and Law and Order SVU (the only current network crime procedural I can even watch (**** you csi). the male detective guy and the Ice T character are fairly awesome. the woman detective much less so. not something I'd make a point of watching on a regular basis, but still.)

Firefly (the fans of this show are really annoying. still cool, though)

Twin Peaks (this show is really good guys. at least until the killer reveal and David Lynch leaving the show.)

actually this is like almost all the tv I've ever watched. I don't watch tv except sometimes when my dad has it on, (or when my friends decide that they want to watch something really goddamn dumb and I put up with it), as I said before. I pirate and or buy dvds of shows I know will be good ahead of time. Most tv sucks ***.

edit: I also like Seinfeld (occasionally, when someone else has it on) and Black Books (more in your face and less dry than most British comedy, I feel like. Still, pretty fun). this post is already too long.

second edit: Game of Thrones seems good so far, too. especially Peter Dinklage. oh, and Metalocalypse because yeah

Being Human North American version - show is alright, About a vampire and a werewolf living together trying to live a normal life while different problems show up from both sides of them, oh they also live with a ghost girl named Sally while she figures out what to do while shes in that state.

Merlin - sorta recently got into it, and alright show but it keeps me entertained, about Merlin in his younger days, growing and serving by the side of Prince Arthur while he tries to hide his magic powers since its banned throughout of Camelot.

Futurama - Fry is just beast

Heroes - People with super powers wondering why they have them and figuring out what to do with it. I just like superpowers so I decided to watch it one day.

They all need less ads, seriously there's about 5x more ad breaks and 3x as many ads per break compared to when I was growing up. If a show goes for 30mins, atleast half of that time is going to be advertising.

Too many ads, the services cost too much and almost everything is a rerun. That's why I haven't watched television for years and just get the few good series online.

I don't sound as crazy when I yell at a face with a voice.
I'm not allowed in libraries anymore.

But how else will these networks make record profits?
What disgusts me most about ads are the penis ads and all those toy ads on Cartnoon Network. It's like selling socks in Porn magazines. They know men love socks too!

I don't really think of them as shows on "tv" any more. TV is just shit nowadays, I just pretend it doesn't exist.

    I'm currently following:
    The Office
    Criminal Minds
    The Mentalist

The Big Band Theory / How I Met Your Mother (I don't know why I watch them really, they're not funny or anything. I just follow them for the sake of it I guess. Keep 'em running while I do something else.)

    Waiting for the new season:
    Weeds
    Dexter

    Shows I've watched and loved:
    Boston Legal
    Scrubs
    Six Feet Under

They'd make decent profits with smaller ad breaks, they could even put an ad down the bottom(where they usually put upcoming shows during the week) and it would annoy people less.

I've actually stopped watching TV because the shows are either crap or reruns that have been shown 1000 times before, the news is nothing but constant fear mongering and it's much easier to download a show I like when it's released on air in America and not have to wait 2 weeks to watch the newest episode of the Simpsons.
