Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater is too big to fit on standard 3DS cartridges. Konami has revealed it asked Nintendo to manufacture special 4GB carts specifically for the game.
Creative producer at Kojima Productions Yoshikazu Matsuhana revealed the news for the first time at a Konami VIP event in downtown LA following day one of E3.
“We spoke to Nintendo about the size issue.”
Matsuhana explained, "We incorporated so many 3DS-exclusive features into this game, but the only problem we ran in to was the size of the 3DS cartridge itself. We spoke to Nintendo about this issue and they let us use, for the first time ever, an exclusive 4GB cartridge for the game."
Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater is the first and only game confirmed to use the 4GB 3DS cartridge, and after an impressive eyes-on look at the game running at E3, it's not difficult to see why.
