It means LucasArts believes the game is, by today standard, crappy. "Even if it's f2p, players will not play our game."

Changing the business model for an experience like Star Wars Galaxies takes a major investment and overhauling of the existing infrastructure of the game. We're unfortunately at a point in our life cycle where a change of this magnitude is just not possible. The harsh reality is that we've reached a point where the game is no longer a sustainable business.
this is what´s wrong with this world, stupid people studying business economics, demanding huge salaries for what little they do,
while not caring about anything else.

you are whats wrong with this world. only thinking in your personal gratification and demanding others to spend their resources for your own benefit.

they worked out the pros and cons and decided accordingly.

If they tried to appease a bunch of underaged morons not willing to pay a red cent for their entertainment, and then the model didnt work, they would have thrown a lot of money after bad. That could possibly represent company layoffs to make up for the bad business venture.

your self entitlement would cost some family men their income.

so for the time being, go play with your he-mans. some day you'll understand that in the real world the driving force is money.

i just hope they let the EMU keep running, i doubt they will im sure we will see a legal battle or two in the future but what ever, in my opinion SWG is/was way better then swtor will ever even come close to being.

after playing the beta for swtor i just hated it.. it felt so.. so, i dont know how to explain.. it felt like i would rather it be a single player game, not only that but pretty much all the animations look like poop and a lot of the texture work makes me to give wow the best looking game ever award, the only thing it has going for it is the voice acting but i dont want that in a mmo, i dont want cut scenes i dont want singleplayer or limited palyer missions.

oh well it will continue getting hyped and hell it will probably break records at launch but honestly 3 months in i think the game will already be dead. and by dead i of course mean mmo dead, you know the thing that seems to happen a lot now days p2p mmo gets hyped comes out with 45 servers 3 months later has to merge down to 10 while all those will still be low pop ect.

and i just want to point out that yes i am a swg fanboy before anyone says anything, all i can say is for me personally it has the best housing, crafting and better then average pvp/combat out of all the mmo's ive played, swtor wont bring the cantina experince, the having my own house out in the middle of my favorite planet, and just many of the rp features that swg has, even though i dont rp i love it for those features.

But then they can't milk out another 5 months of subscription fees from the people still playing.

So what they are saying is either the game is doing so poorly that it's not worth trying to save or that they no longer care and are moving on to to the new cash cow or so they think.

actually it's much more simpler, they just don't want SW:G to compete with ToR, even if it is freemium

LOL at the people who think the massive companies SONY and Lucas Arts can't keep a game alive while they transition to freemium like every other smaller company. What a bunch of ******s. They are killing the game to make the new one more of a success.

^ Only guy who understands business on this thread.

Not only would it be a shotgun shell to the foot of TOR if SWG were to go Freemium at roughly the same time as it's launch (Where a lot of potential TOR customers could turn to as an alternative), but the fact you will have all of these SWG refugees without a home, where will they turn?

    You guessed it. TOR.

SWGEmu is a great project that will only get better. An influx in growth could mean many things which I would dare speculate on now (as imo it's way too soon), but it will never be able to house the entire Refugee population of SWG. That is what TOR is for, and why SWG's closing is in sync with TOR's launch (which is 3 months prior, giving time for the first wave of players and stabilization patches). Sooo, they'll even be ready for the collision of SWG'ers.

It's a hard decision for me. I played the game for years while it was pay-to-play, and in my experience, going f2p ruins the community of the game, because it becomes flooded with people with lots of money and shitty attitudes, or just kids ("old" kids and "young" kids).

If they can manage to make the game have a cash shop that gives no benefit to combat at all, I would be all for it. But I seriously doubt they could resist the good business decision to include consumable items that give the players an edge in combat or some such.

I would rather have my beloved game die than see it become a pay-to-win frenzy for kids.
