Sorry, but that's just silly.
EDIT: For people who don't know what he was going to do...
He was going to make a memorial of the tragedy in Minecraft...and stream it...
Reputation: 490It's a good idea with good thoughts behind it, but this is the wrong forum to talk about this. Maybe a bit to soon, too.

You can build so many things in Minecraft. You could make all the names of the people that died in the attacks in the sky, save the map, and host it up on a server open to anyone for a while. Just put some mods up that make it impossible for anyone to build or destroy without admin rights.
Be creative. Maybe he could put up a server and invite some of the most well-known people in minecraft to build a building or something. Maybe a do a bit of research on the people who died and see if there's anything they liked that you could theme the buildings off of.
Maybe a massive tower with 80+ floors, each floor themed after a different person who died?
Hell, if planned right, and executed correctly, this could become the world first virtual memorial. Maybe you could get the Norwegian government or some group to pay for the cost of hosting the server, and the server could, like I said earlier, be opened to anyone, just turn of everyone's ability to build and destroy.
There's probably a bunch of Minecraft LP'ers who would, if it was offered to them correctly, would be more than willing to help with building part of the memorial. Maybe you can even get the support of Notch, though he's Swedish.
They had memorials in Second Life. No 1 gave a shit. What makes you think minecraft will be any different. Do note you can build anything in Second Life too. And they look 10x better than minecraft.
Reputation: 490Probably because Second Life is a shit hole and has a reputation to be primarily visited by furries, *********s, and sex-aholics. Plus, Minecraft is a game while Second Life is more of a simulation/role play tool. Minecraft is played by gamers, and this would be something for gamers.
Minecraft has been used in the past to generate tens of thousands of dollars for charity, too. So it wouldn't be a new concept.
Hell, you could put up a server, invite people to come play on it for 24 hours or something, stream it live and have everyone in a TS server, and ask for donations to go towards the victims families.
If "no one gives a shit", and calling this whole thing "silly" is in your hearts, then why even post? This person feels as if he has a right to dedicate something to those lost to the attack, and he was just asking for your support. If you don't want to support it, don't post, honestly. This is a very touchy subject and rather negative feedback like this isn't even necessary in this case, yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but someone here is trying to do something moral. There are many members of this community who would support Darkspine in this scenario, including myself, but apparently since two... for a lack of other words... "asshats", decided to make a visit to the thread.
If you're not going to post anything nice, especially, don't post at all. Darkspine is doing something for the greater good of humanity, whether you like it or not. You don't know if his Minecraft server could catch publicity, and donations to this cause would do something much better than you two pulling facts out of thin air.
Slate, your sandwich comparison is by far, honestly, one of the most disappointing things I've seen on this forum. I don't really want to address it, but I will. That was bad. Just really a terrible reference that has nothing to do with this person's wonderful and charitable idea. Your discouragement is better suited elsewhere. You are not doing anything but being a nuisance to this community, and honestly, to the world. This is a despicable act by you, and you should be ASHAMED of yourself.
Who cares? If a person's trying to do a charitable act, his first impression isn't all about publicity. They had memorials in Second Life. No 1 gave a shit. What makes you think minecraft will be any different. Do note you can build anything in Second Life too. And they look 10x better than minecraft.
Congratulations. You compared a charity event that went on for a mere fortnight or less to one that went on for nearly a year. Bravo, my friend. Again, if you have nothing better to say, nor if you're going to do anything to help progress humanity, at least don't get in the way of others.
Darkspine, on the behalf of this forum, hell, on the behalf of this entire community, I'd like to apologize. You are attempting to do a great act out of self kindness, and I can see why discouragement would come out of two despicable forum members who deserve to see another side of life. You are truly a great person for attempting to dedicate your time for the greater good, and on the behalf of the REAL people at OnRPG.com, we hope that you'll overlook the two idiotic comments from two members and continue to work on this project, no matter what the "haters say".
Until then, I'm going to lock this thread. Slate, dark, if you feel as if you'd like to apologize, or attempt to defend your clearly mismanaged comments, feel free to PM me.

What point are you exactly trying to make? That the memorial should be made in Second Life rather than Minecraft? The guy probably isn't even going to try to make money for charity for this, I was just giving ideas on what he could do.
The point is, the guy plays Minecraft and he wants to do something to show his support for the victims families. So whatever he does do would would be in Minecraft.
