These are, personally, games I've enjoyed(of course Kashis already named almost all the games I loved above.)

    Dragon Quest VIII
Tales of the xxxxx (I started from Abyss, and then back tracked to the other series)
    Megaman X collections
    Metal Gear Solid .

You didn't like the second one? I thought that one was better than the the first one though I'm not really a fan of the Valkyrie Profile series. It has a really nice battle system, music and graphics with a decent story though.

Atelier Iris (and also Mana Khemia) are kind of traditional turn based RPG's with unique twists. They have some interesting item creation systems as well and are a huge part of the games. Some of the bosses are pretty challenging as well.

Honestly though, if I had to suggest which game to try first out the ones I suggested that you haven't played, it'd be between Dark Cloud 2 and Odin Sphere. Dark Cloud 2 has superior gameplay but Odin Sphere has way better storytelling. They are both unique though and you can't go wrong with either.

Musashi Samurai Legend is one I forgot to mention but that one is hit or miss with some folk. The visuals and music are awesome but the gameplay is mediocre.

I -think- I may have tried Dark Cloud 2 once...isn't the beginning of that game when your village gets taken up? And you have to go get all the stuff, and you can re-create the town and things? <w>

I could probably give Valkyrie Profile another go. I was like...young when I played it. And I didn't really appreciate the older games back then like I do now.

Oh, speaking of! I should also get the Xenosaga series again.

That's the first one, but the right series. The 2nd is like way better than that one in pretty much all aspects.

Oh you don't have to play the first one to understand the 2nd, but you'll see a lot of familiar elements and some cameos from the first one to the 2nd.

DC 1 is good, but there are a number of things that make it a bit of a rough experience. DC2 I know you'll enjoy. If you do decide to play the first one and have a bad experience with it, don't let it stop you from playing the second one is all I mean.

    Shadow Hearts 1.
    Shadow Hearts Covenant.
The third Shadow Hearts... just failed bad so don't get that.

Might want to try the Onimusha series as well.

And Zone of the Ender if you diggin' big robots flyin' around.

With Valkyrie profile 2 you have to get used to the battle system. As soon as you get how it works, it get's extremely fun. You should also try radiata stories. There are 2 paths to choose and more then 70 recruitable characters on both sides. For each of them you have to do something special, before you can recruit them.

@Wiwe. Don't try the .hack GU series.. The normal .hack with kite and such, try it now!
