    Default Minecraft 1.8

1.8 is supposed to come out sometime in September. As Jeb(one of the team) told in an interview "...survival as you know it now will be gone" meaning the game is getting revamped basically.

There's been a livestream going on but it's offline now.

    Confirmed changes:

    • cobwebs
    • endermen
    • new lighting
    • experience orbs
    • rivers
    • food-eating animation
    • 1.8 will add Creative Mode
    • Creative Mode will have flight

There is much more info to come but it's been widely rumored that you can actually "finish" the game. But those are only rumors.

My best guess is that you can enhance mining speed, jumping, melee damage and etc. with those skills and probably some other brand new additions.

Like Jeb said, the game is changing completely. It won't be the Minecraft you know now. The confirmed changes that are listed are barely half of what we will see.

I think the rate of development is really bad, and it's not cool how Notch takes his time with the game.

"When it's ready" is one thing, but the size of the team and manpower allocated to the project is a bit of a slap in the face to the customers, I think.

But he's entitled to do what he wants, of course.

It's B2P anyway. I don't stress about the speed of development. If MC was P2P then that's a completely different question.

It wouldn't feel right for me to bash Notch for the time it takes to give free updates to a game I paid less than $15 for, but it does seem like his work pace has slowed down considerably. I mean, the last time Minecraft got any new content was two months ago. I'm sure Notch has already finished the code for the new mob, so he could at least give us that. Hell, bet he could crank out creative mode in an afternoon if he wanted to, yet it's been a good 3 months and he hasn't given us that either.

The lack of updates has been even more annoying since he seemed to get a lot more done back before he had another person helping him make the game. It also doesn't help that he always seems to be running off to conventions and conferences every other week and trying to run a company certainly isn't helping either. Again, I wouldn't want to insult the guy as he's done a lot, but it is a tad frustrating.

You have to consider that the updates are more significant now. And, the game is much more advanced than it was before. Any updates are going to take more work since they aren't just bug fixes anymore.

Also, I haven't played in a lonnnnnnnng time. But experience orbs? I'm gonna have to install it again.
