    Default Tale-of-Tales: The Endless Forest

Tale-of-Tales: Endless Forest is a neat free-to-play screensaver-game (but you can play it without it being on screensaver... actually now that I think about it, it's been years since I played, so idk if it still works as a screen saver...).

In the game, "You are a deer. So are the other players. You meet each other in an endless forest on the internet. The setting is idyllic, the atmosphere peaceful. You communicate with one another through sounds and body language."

The game is a very peaceful game, and is most enjoyed by those with a big imagination.

You don't have to register to play, you just have to download (50M and install.

If you get into it enough, you can name your deer and get a unique pictogram that other players can use to identify you with. Apparently there are now two (or more?) generations of pictograms. I have a generation One Pictogram, which are apparently in high demand, as when I checked my email today, I saw that I had a message on the T-o-T forums, when I checked, the message was some guy asking me to "donate" my Gen 1 picto account to him.

If you have ever seen Princess Mononoke, the deers look similar to him, deer body, human-like face.

Occasionally, the developers will log in and take over two statues that are in the center of the forest and play around with the deer, does all kind of neat affects.

Throughout the forest there are (I think, haven't played in a long while...check the websites FAQs >.>) stuff you can pick up to customize your deers antlers, coat, and face (mask).

Oh, also forgot, there are some neat tricks that may or may not be bugs that you can do. Not sure if it still exist, but it used to be if you were on a hill and ran, and jumped right as you get off the hill, and keep pressing jump, you'd be able to "fly". Kinda like a Reindeer would.

There's an average of 30-50 people in the forest nowadays, apparently.

I decided to make that in reply to you instead of updating my original post

The only form of communication is the same kind of communication deer in real life have... body language and making noises. Like I said, you need to have an imagination and a good heart to enjoy.

Literally, it says in the requirements, right under the RAM requirement, "Must have an IMAGINATION and a GOOD HEART" but in bold and gold color text.

Also, here's a neat little real-time map so you can stalk all the people in the forest. Most of them are asleep (they probably have the game set to be their screensaver. Five minutes of mouse-inactivity puts you to sleep).

On that note, if you fall asleep in special places, you'll wake up with neat spells you can cast on yourself or others. Like if you fall asleep in a ring of mushrooms, you'll wake up with a transformation spell you can cast on anyone you please.

So, you run around, be a deer, enjoy the scenery, play with the other deer AND cast spells.

ALSO! I forgot, when you first register your name, you are made a fawn for 30 days, after which you'll grow into an adult.

Since my guy was made in 2007, he is a super kamehameha saiyan deer, over 50 stories tall and he can breath fire.

Not really ._. He's just a normal deer. Got a pretty pictogram, tho.

    *edit*600 post.

I've never been more confused about what a game is. Downloading now.

Edit: Well that was certainly an interesting experiment, but my computer's frame rate plummets whenever I try to move.

So, what body language must I do to 'suggest the idea of breeding' to other female deer?

Because playing that game makes you a deer, which basically means fagg0t in brazil.

    Am I right Katagiri?

looks kinda interesting. going to try it out

Although, I don't like playing as a deer... I would rather play as something... not animal.... human perhaps.. but I'm sure I'll have to play to understand.

Hmm, not sure why that is :S The only thing I can think is it is something that has to change as your character moves, like shadows or something.

Sometimes I will get a tiny bit of lag when I first start the game, but after that it is gone except for really random lag spikes that are rare. I have everything on max and have a decently powerful machine, tho.

That was so cute. I was walking around and saw another deer. I did the ''MOOOO'' sound and he mooed back we were sitting there mooing and doing emotes etc lol then I just walked away and started rubbing against a tree like a boss deer.

Yeah, stuff like this is what makes the game. It's just cute and random. There's no possible way for you to get mad or rage (unless you have anger issues, and even then the game might actually help you). At worse you'll get bored and just go along to play another game.

It's one of those games that very few stay with and play everyday, but has a massive base of players that play for a week or fairly regularly, then get bored of the game, but always end up coming back to it every few months or so.

Another thing that is neat, since I've come back, is the amount of people in it.

I mean damn, when I started playing I was lucky to see 10-13 deer when the devs held an event, maybe 3 tops when they weren't.

Now years later I can't go five feet without seeing a group of deer and fawns laying with each other e_e

I can't wait til the game gets more developed. Which is slow going (kinda like that wolf quest game, since they have very little funding and pay for the game in segments, like "We need $5,000 to develop a new species of wolf! Help us and donate today!")

I'd prefer a dragon game with similar elements, though. Just because.

A guy from SomethingAwful managed it. Made a script that clicked on the moo icon the entire day. Then, he shared the script to a bunch of people and it went on from there. Everyone else was getting pretty pissed about it, posting their rage on the forums. They actually had a 3 page MMO Roulette article about the game, was pretty funny to read.

It was from way back in 2007 though, so the game has probably changed quite a bit. Still, not my cup o' tea.

We already did that last year, we beat the game and now the only thing anyone can do is walk around as a deer and do emotes and cast visual spells.

Sorry we ruined the game for everyone.

The game is pretty cute, i think I was a guest though as I wasn't a fawn and running around as a deer.

It would be nice if there was something to do, like find stuff. but for a time waster it isn't too bad.
