Woo, got my permit today

Did my permit test today, got 100% and had to wait at the DMV for an hour to get my Card. I swear they purposely make your pictures look like shit.
Probably not the safest thing but I drove home on the highway, was pretty decent I guess. The permit test here is ridiculously easy. For example one of the questions showed a stop sign and asked what it meant.

When I had my permit, it was a piece of paper not a card. That's probably what confused Darc.

Ah, Permits in Canada are just like a standard license but it has a big L for learner on it. After 12 months(8 with driving school) you can get your license by completing a road test.

Odd...mine was a card. I had it for like 4 years and noticed it was gonna expire, so rather than pay $60 to get a new permit AND $60 to get my license, I figured I'd better just get my *** in gear and get my normal license haha.

Whoa, whoa, whoa you guys can drive without taking a road test? Oh that sucks, I feel cheated we are in no circunstances allowed to drive until we pass two tests.

We have to pay 600 euros and take theoric + driving lessons. Then we need to pass a written theory test and a driving test. And then approx. after regulary 2-3 months which is how much it takes until you're finally submitted to exam, you get your license if you pass. Oh and it's temporary for 3 years. If you commit a grave offense, such as going past a red or not stoping at a stop sign, your license becomes immediatly void.

Wait so you're not allowed to drive at all until you've taken a behind-the-wheel test? How does that work? Also in California if you have your permit you're only allowed to drive with an adult over 25 in the car with you until you get your real license.

Not that much different over here. Theoretic exams (lessons not required), 6 hours of driving lessons and 3 months of waiting before you can do exams. 20 hours if you wish to drive alone before you do your exams, which I currently have. :|
