If the game was more than a wow cloned carebear fest I might consider trying it.

The fact is theres no freedom in the game your pigeon holed into 1 type of character and one set story to follow through. Can you PvP? Ya you can if some peopel take control of characters that arent theres (orcs etc) and you can engage in battleground PvP but not on your actual char just some random orc.

Sadly this game has probaly one of the best Lore's out there with a huge world of possibilities you could potentialy play through but it doesnt give you even close to enough.

This game failed as pay 2 play, and now it has population as free 2 play becuase there are a lot of people out there without money but honestly if they had money they would just play WoW its a better version of this game in every way.

I defy you to name even 1 example of something unique in lord of the rings, the fact is there isnt a single unique concept within the game aside from the Lore which you arent even able to take part in the way you decide you want to you just do what your told like the rest of the world.\

3. Legendary growth weapons
4. Player based created gear as opposed to grinding for tiered gear
5. PvP- which you pointed out... funny too.
6. Unique classes which do not follow the typical fighter, mage, rogue, wizard template everyone does
7. In game player created music
8. F2P that is truly F2P

1.) AA in EQ2, Talents in WoW, Traits in LotRO, they're all the same really, LotRO just makes it even easier to swap them out.
2.) EQ2 has team triggered effects too through Heroic Opportunities, mix of damage and buffs.
3.) Growth weapons aren't a new concept. Cronous, Eden Eternal, etc. It's almost a replacement for upgrading to keep people happier without their weapons breaking or growing out of date/needing to replace.
4.) EQ2 again, Mastercrafted has been pretty much better than anything you can get for any tier up til the endgame raiding sets, they just botched the system this expansion with a stupid feature(Uber enemies and imba legendary equips from normal quests to force free players to pay more if they buy the expansion).
5.) PvP is unique in LotRO, reminds me of the old EQ1 system where you took control of mobs and attacked players. Doesn't mean the system is entertaining to a lot of people(They want to play their characters, not an unrelated enemy).
6.) Hybrids have been done multiple times. LotRO just tries to cram all the archetypes into as few classes as possible.
7.) Mabinogi, I'll leave that one there.
8.) That might be one, but it depends on what people think of as free, EQ2x you can level to cap completely free on all existing quest content without spending a dime or grinding out points to use to purchase.

There's always arguments for and against.

And I have my main on Dwarrowdelf, level 30 or so right now, haven't really played in awhile. Dwarrow is the newest American server if I remember right, reason I went was because it was pretty much a new slate with everyone else at the time.

noone ever claimed wow did anything original thats your own statment cyber.. Wow just took all the best things from all the games out there and did them all BETTER and SMOOTHER then anything else out there.. I dont even play the game but to think anything else is just trying to fool yourself WoW dominates theme park mmos and theres nothing anyone can really do about it atm..

As for original ideas in WoW that were truely original I would say Real ID friends with cross server / game communication is there own system, as well as I belive wow was the first to implement a random search for instanced dungs across all there severs for finding groups for there instanced dungs..

My point wasnt how unique wow is just the fact that lotr is a poor mans version of WoW and that statment stands true sorry to rain on your parade.

No thanks to Skyrim or BF3. I am gonna jump on DDO and do a bit of dungeon crawl. As for LoTRO, I plan on purchasing the expansion coming up. It offers more than what WoW ever can.

Is the game actually fun? I've heard the combat was pretty stale and the quests were mostly boring "kill x monsters" quests, but I could have heard wrong I guess. I would download it and try it for myself but downloading a 10gb game, when you've got a download cap, is quite annoying.
