i've played mobas for a long time.
All i can say is that it's an acquired taste. Most asians like Mobas because they're micro intensive, positioning matters and the really small tricks like animation canceling are so absolutely rewarding. Also it requires a LOT of quick thinking and precise mouse movement.
Typical example is playing ashe end game: I can carry the team 18-0 but the character herself is still squishy. if i'm going to win teamfights when the team compositions are solid, i HAVE to position myself where THEIR assassins can't get to me. And to do that, i need my team to fulfill their roles as buffers as well.
Therefore, the sort of 5 person cohesion that comes with moba games is half the reward. MOBAS are all VERY intense and quick on your feet thinking, rather than something like WoW pvp or Guild wars.
You only have 4 skills. how you choose and when you choose to use them are Key- it's not like MMO's where you have many skills to choose from. Every hero fills a precise role in the game.
Picking who you play is half the fun.
Also, if your into RTS, you WON"T be into moba style games- they play very differently. Rather than mindless SHOOT THE TARGET type gameplay, you have to be aware of your minimap and the opponents positioning at all times.
That being said, Lineage 2 was much more fun PVP wise than LoL ever will be.
However, L2 PVP was large scale seige with assists and target switches and overall just a ****ton of fun.
LoL is probably one of the better mobas- better than hon, but not NEARLY as good as dota is.
atleast, back when they had blink dagger.
