No suprise really. Was already expecting this, since beta started so late. Remember when Jay said; we will be beta testing for approx. 6 months. Well, guess what. Beta just started. He wasnt lying. I'll be happy if it is released in late Februari 2012.

I don't understand how can they beta test level 13 content for 6 months.

Plus if they do increase level cap, it will not make sense as it is not a MMO.

I'm sure more content and more testers will come in slowly. Someone already did a speed run, completing the beta in like 20min. PvP needs to be tested also. Which is not included right now. Knowing Blizzard they want it to be "diamond standard". And that takes time, no matter how much resources you got. They already changed huge game systems completely around. From the beta test so far. Alot of things need to be reworked. I'm pretty sure they're not to happy about certain things. They hoped for a smooth ride and thats why they kept saying late 2011 release in conference calls. Then reality strikes.

The problem is, is that the Blizzard development process of being excessively slowing is becoming unacceptable. With their earlier games there was not the competition or short attention span of gamers, but with the current gaming "culture" the game could easily slip past the point where anyone cares about it to make it the super hit that Diablo 2 was. Starcraft 2 for example had both the holiday season and the established esports scene to give it the explosive popularity it has had, but Diablo 3 will only have nostalgic fans (impossible to meet thier expectations for any game), and the standard post holiday level of sales for a game (which can be random at best).

I am waiting for this game since I heard it was in making which is I think about 6 years ago, waiting few more months is nothing and it was expected, Blizzard is always aiming for polished quality.

Hey as long as they have their e-celebs rolling vids out of content everyone already saw from F&F they're good to go. They'll probably expand they beta a bit as time goes on and invite like 2-3 more players before all is said and done. I don't expect them to actually send invites to many opt ins with all the free press they get from their most recent group.

this stament doesnt really make any sense.. What do you mean by raising the level cap wouldnt make sense as it isnt an mmo?

First of you do realize mmo means massive multi online aka 1 persistant world, diablo is a room based action RPG how would leveling and increasing level caps not make sense in an action RPG? The beta has no cap but virtualy soft capd at 14 due to content but the current level cap is 60. After first expansion it will likely go to 100 pretty much identical to d2 except level 60 was only a soft cap.

Now that being said its very simple how they can beta test lvl 13 for months and thats because they dont care about beta testing the content just the servers. Its already been stated by blizz that they have the largist and greatist QA team in the world who play and debug world of warcrack, those QA players are testing the entire content for d3 not just lvl 13 and blizzard has said they only want the public to test server capicty as well as certain features of the game but they are quite confident they can release a very polished near perfect product just using there own HUGE supply of QA testers to test the rest of act 2 and beyond.

It SUCKS big time to wait but this is blizzard they wont release an un rdy game and daiblo will be worth the wait, they are no SOE who bascialy charge and release betas with glarring exploits and bugs for release. Am I the only person who remembers Star wars galaxies first day of launch there were baby mobs you 1 shot for full exp, people went crazy using baby super mobs to level very fast. It was patched very quickly but how could they not of fixed that pre release? Well basicaly that was the first beta of the game.

The only real question I am left with is what game will I now play in Nov instead. DN cap goes up at 28th thats cool for abit, bt will it be skirim, sw tor, bf3, gears 3 or 1 of the other games I idnt just list. Theres lots of games coming I am sure we can play those till D3 hope we dont have to wait to long in 2012.

Dude, MMOs can just keep adding new content and increase level cap to hundreds on a monthly basis. That is why you seldom see level caps in Closed and Open Beta of MMOs.

Can Diablo III do that? Once again, content in Diablo III is pretty much limited compared to MMOs. 1 or 2 expansions and it is done. Raising the level cap will just give people access to more content for free.

Hm. When is Guild Wars 2 supposed to come out? Couldn't this be a strategic move?

Diablo 3 isn't going to have content updates for the F&F, Media, CBT, and Stress. They've already said that you get all the classes and 1/3rd of Act 1 for testing. I will not rule out events of sorts here and there though. This is because the other content is being tested exclusively in-house among various paid testers and Activision-Blizzard staff. As for your 6 month beta period the public beta is only a small portion of that. Diablo 3 only has roughly 24hrs of actual content if played at a reasonable pace. They simply do not have the content for an extended public beta [stress or swarm] without harming the game experience. The current testing is only hardware and XYZ testing so there is no way they can drag it out for 3+ more months and retain public testers and interest.

When I tested Diablo 1 it was a 6 week window. In Diablo 2 I had an 8 week intermittent window. World of Warcraft I tested for close to a year. However, a MMORPG and an ARPG are completely different beasts and require very different test treatments.

As for Guild Wars 2 on release and beta. There are no confirmed dates yet, but release was expected in Qtr 1 2012 and alpha/beta is expected in Qtr 4 2011. If current rumors are true, then some of us will be starting GW2 beta by Thanksgiving. Eurogamer Expo 2011 is going on right now showing off the latest Alpha build for GW2 which from all reports is very stable. They are already letting some media play high level content so check out Cynical Brit for a treat. When I did GW1 beta it was a 12 week window [plus those stress weekends] so I don't expect any less from GW2.

The weirdest thing about GW2 that still tosses me off is the fact that Newegg has the date released for 12-31-11

I think it was roughly a year ago that it was still scheduled as a Qtr 4 2011 release. They are putting a lot of effort into the game.

    I know, it just kinda sucks that it's hard for a guy like me to get back in GW1. I had an account with Prophecies from 06 but completely forgot the account information with the email and all that so I decided to buy it all over again (Trilogy and EoTN). It's tough to get back into it after being gone for 5 years. ;-;

    These things being:
    - Lack of stat distribution
    - Auction House
    - Personal drops as opposed to one set of drops for everybody

(That last point can be argued. I personally enjoyed the thrill of trying to get a drop against my party members.)
So basically you want Diablo II HD?
